Default XE V6 Exhaust note vs F-Type V6 note?

Curious as whether those who may have had the opportunity to hear both, have an opinion as to whether the exhaust notes are similar nor not between the XE and the F-Type I've read rave reviews about the F-Type V-6 exhaust note.
Thanks in advance

In a video review of the new XF:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...review-163035/

the reviewer really didn't like the way the 340hp engine sounded.

He did love everything else other than the cheap interior...

So welcome to the machine

The two cars are intended for an entirely different demographic.

The F-Type is much louder with an exhaust system purposely designed to produce a much more aggressive and louder exhaust note. Moreover, the ECU tune in the F-Type V6 (both 340 and 380 versions which sound identical), is designed to inject a little fuel during deceleration, and that unburned fuel ignites in the exhaust system producing the F-Type signature, "snap, crackle, and pop."

JLR has surmised that the louder F-Type exhaust note and sound of "fireworks" would not be appealing to the majority of the XE demographic. Thus, the XE has a different exhaust system which has tamed the beastly sound of the F-Type.

Ha!...that's fascinating! actually designing backfires into the exhaust.
If anything...for me...I'd tune the EX V6(via the muffler design) to to produce a little more mid and low range frequency.

Thanks for your post.

Glad to help.

To amplify a bit, just because the XE exhaust note is "tamer" than the F-Type doesn't necessarily make it tame. Almost anything would be tamer compared to the F-Type, which is a bit over the top for an OEM car. While I've not had the opportunity to test the XE since none have yet been delivered to metro Washington, DC, I've read many accounts and seen video clips that indicate it is very pleasing. I suspect it's far more entertaining than comparable BMWs and MBs.

It's pretty common now-a-days. The 991 and 981 Porsches have the same thing in their stock exhausts as well, it squirts some gas in on high rpm liftoff and you get a lot of pops and burbles.

Which leads to the assumption that if you find someone who can re-program the XE ECU, in theory you could get it to sound similar to the FType ... ?

Having Driven the XE - its a bit in-between the new XF and F-Type.

Definitely louder and throatier than XF, but if the F-type is a lion the XE is a house cat.

Drove the XE all over hollywood for the performance tour and once you take the car into manual mode and push it hard (our driving instructor was GREAT! We flew down the street going 60mph and she kept yelling to go faster, lmfao). The engine sound fill the cabin and its great. Exhaust ripples behind you and if you're paying attention (it won't command your attention) it sounds pretty nice.

Keep in mind these were XEs not yet "production ready". But they said the car would sound the same.

This is very interesting to know I have an XF and wondered why the XE exhaust sounded like a F-Type.

New XE S owner here. (Based on youtube) Lot of owners has done resonator delete in mid section, which is making exhaust louder and gives more rasp into the note. And XE and XF shares the same mid section, by the way. XE sound way too muffled to my testy, so I ordered immediately Zaustworks muffler. Probably sound level is now par with F-Type but XE software do not create burbles and to get rasp - resonators need to go. I*m next leaning towards remap and expecting that to add some character into note and what I really miss is more direct engine braking when moving off the throttle. Now there is a lame coasting before engine braking starts and my experience is that ECU mapping can effect a lot in this area.

I bought car to be 4-door F-Type and modify it to become one..

Do you have a good video of a resonator delete? Any adverse effects like drone?
Mine does drone a fair bit when accelerating around 1400rpm, even with the stock exhaust.

I'd love a bit of a crack on high-rev upshifts like the F-Type.

No, I haven't done yet resonator delete but I'll probably do that latest in coming summer. I'll do remap first and see how that will effect on burbles and does it give additional soundtrack. I really love rasp which my S54 makes above 3500 rpm before screaming starts, F-type has similar tone in sound and I think with tuning (exhaust+remap) we can reproduce that. But remap first - more power means more fuel and probably ignition timing, this should change also exhaust note. Also tweaking timing during shifts (and when vacuum in intake) can add burbles and funny noises. This is something which Porsche is doing with PSE in sport-mode, love those over-run noises it makes.

Since Zaustworx's exhaust is quite loud already, I may need to change original muffler (in front of resonators) to a bit larger one, to keep volume in reasonable levels. Has amyone done this modifications already and could give feedback? I've been watching this one dude in Portugal with BRG XE S and his progress with different modifications, one with remap and full exhaust sounds quite good when raferance is F-type.
