Exclamation 2015 XFR vs. 2016 XF

Hi all:

I am down to two choices for a pre-owned Jag. This is my first real big boy car purchase and am soliciting opinions. Both

1. 2015 XFR with 33,000 kms, black on black
2. 2016 XF 3.5 AWD with 24,000 kms, black on tan

Both are Jaguar Canada certified pre-owned with the 160,000 km / 6 year warranty.

I have driven both and love them both for different reasons. I live in Canada so having the AWD on the 16 XF is nice, and of course, it is the newer redesigned XF model which is gorgeous.

However, the XFR is a beast of a vehicle and incredibly fun to drive. I don't mind the RWD, but the back seat is a little tighter and I often have more than a few folks in my car.

I drive my cars to about 200,000 kms, so longevity and reliability are key for me, as I drive lots for work and spend a lot of time in the car on the road.

Tell me what to buy and why!!!

I should add - price differential is that the XFR is $9k CDN more than the 16 XF.

I would say this is really going to depend on what you are looking for in your car. Both are terrific options

The 2016 will give you the new aluminium body, better technology, the new appearance and noticeably better fuel efficiency (plus AWD for the winter)
The XFR is just a blast - immense power, fun, exciting. Fuel efficiency will be poorer, the tech is older and you will definitely need winter tyres to get any real traction on snowy roads

Mine is the 2010 XF 5.0 SC which is very similar to the XFR and I love it. Has been v reliable, daily driven incl in snow and no regrets! So I would say XFR but I'm biased

Note - this section of the board for X260 is the new XF model so you might get more votes for the 2016 here. If you ask around the X250 section you will find more of the XFR owners

I'm surprised the price differential is so big. I'd push on that. But it is the last of the V8 XFs so is certainly in demand

Thanks, Do you mean that the XFR is overpriced at 9k more?

Yes - it might be right but it strikes me that $9k more seemed like a lot. It has 10k more miles, a year older and the previous model. I know XFR is very desirable but I wonder if you can negotiate that

Adam
If you are driving where the winter brings lots of snow and ice, I would choose the XF. If not, perhaps the XFR might be the better choice for you as you seem to like performance. The XF is quite fast too. RWD cars are mostly real dogs on snowy and icy roads. My 2016 XF AWD is remarkable on snow and ice really.

If the XFR is a good one, go for that; build quality is excellent, reliability with scheduled maintenance is top class; a few minor things like door latches are all that every seem to go wrong, mechanically they are bulletproof, unlike anything else with vaguely similar performance, another 100 bhp is cheap and easy to obtain, without any compromises, a spare set of wheels fitted with Winter tyres makes them manageable under poor conditions, Jaguar have not replaced it, and probably won't, therefore it is unlikely to depreciate much. The standard XF however, has a down market interior by comparison, and whilst not slow, is not nearly as quick as the R, and is going to just another old jag in a few years. I am not aware of any particular problems with the X260; it just isn't as special, or good looking as the earlier car, IMO.
