Default 2018 XF Sportbrake

Hi all,

I'm not a Jaguar owner yet but I'm thinking about it. Our local dealer has a 2018 XF Sportbrake that's been sitting there for a while (at least 6 months). The build year is 12/17. It's a pretty loaded car with a MSRP of 80K and change. I'm wondering if it's sitting there still in a few months what other people might be shooting for to get the dealer to unload it? I love the car and I've always been enamored w/ hot wagons so this car is dope AF. Can I get thoughts from Jaguar peeps?

TIA from a lurker.

Back in June of 2018, I looked at some of these wagons. My local dealer had one they just received and took the MSRP down from $80k down to $69,990. Dealers know these cars are overpriced... I have seen used ones come on the marked for mid-high 50's. I recommend going there...unless you are okay with the huge depreciation you will take initially and want that "new car" feeling, which we all love.

I looked into a used 2015 Sportbrake that was the "real Sportbrake" because it had the 5.0L SC engine. The beautiful Blue car was in Germany and I would have had to have it shipped to the USA. It would have been a great car to have here. By the time I started getting serious, it was already sold.
(I wonder how many 5.0L SC Sportbrakes were manufactured.)

I was happy to see JLR selling the Sportbrake here, but sad that they don't offer the 5.0L SC engine version.

I purchased my '16 XF in Dec of 16 (MSRP was $70k), and picked it up for $51k. I basically told the dealership that I'm buying a Jag in the next week and if you can hit this number, then I'll take it, if not, there's another dealer20 mins away. Being that it was the end of the year and they needed to move inventory, I got my number.

How were you planning on licensing the 5.0 ?

I find the 5.0 engines interesting, but not needed. I would prefer JLR offered the SB with the Base 340 HP SC 6 and dropped the price $12,000. The SB is noticeable overpriced as is. The MB E Wagon is 7K cheaper and a very fine automobile.

I have an F-Type and after owing it I am suspicious of the equipment level of Jags and the level of tech sophistication. I truly wish there was more discussion of these aspects of the SB on this forum. If you look at the number of on-line participants at the F-Type form and here they are wildly different numbers.

When you say you picked it up for $51K is that including tax & license (fees we have to pay in CA) or did you have to pay for those? That's basically the strategy I was planning on employing. Hey, if you want to move this car, this is the number we can do it at. Based on your post, asking for $20K isn't completely out of bounds.

My 2016 Prestige had a MSRP of 66 and some change. Dealership agreed to my 48k offer, last day of November 2016. My number was before tax, etc. Dealership fee wasn't bad at around $400 bucks...taxes, title, reg is what it is.

Car has been great, only has around 23,000 miles on it but has depreciated crazier than I had expected...

Decide on a number your comfortable with, and hold firm. There were a few Sportbrakes up here back in Oct/Nov that one dealer was offering $25k off of MSRP. I believe they were factory executive cars, low miles, never titled, and came with new warranties.

Good luck, hold firm, and get what you want.

I live in Montana. No problems here importing a car and titling and registering it.
It was going to cost close to $3K to ship to me. I thought it was priced a bit high, even after the Euro to USD conversion, I waited too long to try to negotiate on the price and it was quickly sold.

I though I might be the only one imported to the USA with the 5.0 engine. Would have been a sleeper here. It is listed as being about 1.2 seconds faster 0-60 than the 3.0L S/C version sold in the USA
OTOH, the 5.0 version isn't governed to 121 mph. and can reach 185 mph...

I will admit I am a little behind the curve. But I was flabbergasted when I saw JLR was offering the SB with the 4Cylinder engine for 64K. Talk about "fortitude" that makes MB look like a give away. And then the S which is 7K more has a 120MPH limiter. What sense does that make. I have wasted enough time thinking about a Jaguar SB. I'm just going to stick with MB. No wonder that Volvo is outselling JLR. At least I knew and owned Jaguar in the good days.

You can get an awesome deal on a 2018 Sport brake(I did). The dealers just want to roll product and they get help from JLR to get rid of them and there are not enough enthusiast out there that want them. I bought my Jag Wag in November with a sticker of just over $70K and paid $55K. with the over allowance they gave me for my 2016 CTS, it was more like $51K. I love the car and I am always getting looks and questions about it...even if it is limited to "only" 120 MPH!

Does anyone have 2018 sales numbers for the SB? Goodcarbadcar only shows incomplete data, 99 for the first four months of 2018. OTV, if that wagon a a built date of 12/17, its been sitting a lot longer than 6 months. Its PM (Past Merchandise). They should be willing to give it away. I think the dealer would be lucky to get 60K for the car, Maybe closer to 55K

Do it...they are finding the hard reality that although the market for this model is there, they are $15K over priced. Being honest the Buick SportBrake is pretty sharp looking too and it's properly priced.

Jaguar thinks the XF is in the world of the MB E Class and thus thinks they can get similar costings...but that's a hard nope as the market is clearly telling them with all that inventory. My local branch Portland Jaguar has like 3 of them for big discount right now too.

I started monitoring sportbrake inventory in August. While not pure science, I use autotrader and search nationwide for new 2018 sportbrakes. In the summer their were roughly 225 or so for sale. Today the inventory sets at 139. If the car is not down to 58-60 k, it appears to just sit. Unfortunate as it is an awesome wagon.

I'm seeing some tremendous deals. Brand new S for under $60k. Autotrader.com has been good for me. The Jaguar USA website seems to give me trouble.

Jaguar Glen Cove (NJ) offers 8 sportsbrake cars with 25K discount - under $50k. Un-freaking-believable... makes me want to drive there now...

Those are priced nicely. Not a lot of options however, but how much more do you need? I like that Pimento Red interior.

I finally drove one today, I had never seen one in person even though a Jag dealer is 30 min away from me, between Denver and Boulder, I had never stopped to look. I have to say they are so much more impressive in-person than I Imagined, Beautiful and Incredibly fun to drive. There is just nothing else that looks like a SportBrake and has the luxurious interior in this $ range, with the discounts currently offered on 2018's..
the one I drove is CPO, $56K with every option except the 4-Zone Climate Control.

And the only New one in the state of CO has every option except Adaptive Cruise Control, I really want both 4-Zone Climate for the kids and Adaptive Cruise for long trips so now I'm going to search for one that has both and do a Fly & Drive.

Great, they are rare for sure, I've only seen one other one on the road. Please post a picture of the outside and interior also.
