2WD Only, Traction Reduced - Transfer Case Issue?
Hey guys, I purchased my 2017 Jaguar XF 35t Premium AWD a few months ago. A few weeks ago, I started getting the "2WD only, traction reduced" message. My jaguar has 14,xxx miles on it. Went to the Peoria, IL dealership, which is a hour and a half drive from my address. First stop at the dealership, they stated that it would be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. They believed it was the fluid pump, which they had to order. Went back the following week, the fluid pump did not fix it. So they ordered a whole new module and another fluid pump. STILL did not fix it. They said that I would need a whole new transfer case and that they would have to submit the request since it's such an expensive part.
They gave me a loaner vehicle, then the next day they called and explained how the Jaguar Manufacturer Warranty claim center denied my transfer case replacement due to my vehicle having aftermarket rims. They're 20" rims, instead of the 18" oem rims. I bought my jag with these rims/tires, and did not have the oem rims/tires included in the purchase.
If I let my XF sit for awhile, then drive around a bit, it doesn't switch to AWD until I hit 3-4 miles. Is the transfer case actually bad? Or do you guys think if I bought some OEM XF rims/tires, it would be fine? Only having RWD in the midwest sucks. Lol. I appreciate the help.

If you bought the car from a dealer it should be covered. If not, you are at their mercy unless you can prove the 20" rims don't affect the problem. Your car in AWD is offered with 20" wheels so I don't see what the issue is. Do the rims have spacers? Just being aftermarket anything shouldn't be a problem unless the specs are wrong.
I just bought a 2016, same make, model and mileage and AWD is important to me, so I hope to hear how this is resolved. And I am skeptical about dealers, so ditto.
I think bigger rims carry shorter sidewall tires and that the outer circumference of the tire would be the same. So the size of the rims could have no effect on the transfer case.
Just so long as all the tires have the same outside circumference.
Can you find an intelligent independent mechanic to consider the problem? That would be a big help when you reapproach the dealer, or as the next step, your attorney.
Let us know how this turns out.
