Default 03 XK8 Bent Rims - Refurbish or Replace?

Hello fellow Jaguar enthusiasts. Looking to tap into your knowledge base and see if anyone has come across this issue before. I recently bought my father’s 03 XK8. The car is in wonderful shape except for the fact that three of the rims are slightly bent which causes the vehicle to shake at speeds between 65-75 mph (it was a pre-existing issue that I knew about when I bought it, my pops only drove the car around town, so he didn’t care about the wobble because he rarely drive fast.)

The current rims are the stock original rims, they’re in extremely good shape, only a couple very small scratches on them, and I think they’re one of the highlights of the vehicle. As Jeremy Clarkson would say on Top Gear “Big drug dealer wheels.” I would love to save the wheels if I can, because they’re beautiful. Has anyone ever refurbished these wheels and/or know someone that does this kind of work? Do I need a Jaguar specialist or can any rim shop do it?

If replacement is my best bet I’d like to get the same rims. Are these rims bending a known problem? If so, I assume that means the second hand market is a no go. Is there anywhere you can still buy the OEM rims new?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

There are so many wheel options out there I think it would help if you could either tell us which style you have or post pics of them.

I think the style will make a difference in what can be done.

Let us know. We will help if we can.

There are a bunch of wheel shops in this world that do various levels of repair including bent rims. A place just repaired the road rash on all of my wheels, they did a beautiful job. Still not clear how the previous owner barked all four rims in my case, or bent three of them in your case, but in any case, there is likely a well-regarded solution in your town. It was fairly cheap down here compared with new wheels.

I asked everyone I knew, including detailers, jag place. Almost everyone recommended one place, got estimate, went with them.

How do you know they are bent?

Here in Columbus Ohio, a favorite wheel repair shop is Wheel Medic. They charge $125 per wheel to recondition and an extra $35 to straighten a bent wheel. That also includes mount and balance. Compared to new wheels that's a good deal.

Here are some pics. They're generally in pretty good shape, all 4 were refurbished about 5 years ago.

Thanks. I found the rim shop near me with the highest rating and they seem to be able to do it for $100 a rim.

It hasn’t been driven in the winter for the last 8 years so I assume just potholes over its 78k miles.

I put two new tires on it when I bought it and had all 4 balanced. The mechanic showed me where three of them were out of round.

Thanks. Have you ever had any returned to to round and if so, any idea how long it lasts?

Thanks. Those are the 19" Apollo style. I think they were introduced in 2003. I have them on my 2004.

They are the best 19" wheel IMHO. Definitely worth saving if you can.

If you decide to replace them I would gladly take them off your hands. I bet I could salvage at least one to use as a good full size spare.
