I'm hoping there might be some experienced people here that can help me out. I have a friend who has a 2017 XF 2.0d, it's a long story but the engine is dead, the Jag dealer has quoted her $49k to fix it and her local mechanic doesn't want to touch it. I've stripped it down, it's got two melted pistons (I've assumed leaking injectors), a turbo with too much play, a blocked DPF, a faulty EGR valve, and to top it off the head appears to be damaged beyond repair by the melted pistons.

I've spent considerable time learning about the 2.0 ingenium engine, it makes no sense to rebuild what she has. nor does buying a 2nd hand engine due to the inherent faults in this engine. Her engine only had 72000 kms on it.

I happen to have a crash damaged 2016 XE R-Sport with the 2 litre petrol engine. Seems putting the petrol engine in the XF is possible. From there, from what I've found, I should be able to change the VIN in the petrol PCM using SDD and plug it into the XF loom.

Has anybody got experience in changing from diesel to petrol? Or taking bits from an XE and putting it in an XF? It makes no sense to spend $15k+ rebuilding the diesel engine. and all the supporting components for a car that's only worth $25k tops if it had a working engine and is probably only worth $5k in its current condition.
