Hello! I am a new Jaguar owner. This is my first one and I am restoring it from salvage. (2010 Jaguar XF Premium Luxury) This may be a silly question, please be patient with me. None of the dome buttons actually do anything, but I have NEVER seen this button (next to the parking indicator) in any car I have owned. I press it and it just starts making awful noises from what sounds like the rear of my roof. WHAT is this button?

Just a guess........... rear window shade?

 

Hah! I thought that too looking at it - like some James Bond stuff. On quick inspection I didn't see any hidden doors or collapsed shade-looking items near the rear window. If anyone has one of these and knows what the button actually does... and maybe what the horrific noise is (and perhaps possible repair procedures) that would be splendid!

 

Another guess .... your car doesn't have that feature but the button is standard.

 

Upon researching this the rear window shade IS A THING! This is super cool. I've never seen this before. I'm such a Jaguar newb.

When daylight comes around I will crawl into the back and take a closer look. All of the racket when I press the button there's bound to be something broken. Looks like I need to disassemble the rear parcel shelf and paneling at the C-Column in the rear. I will let you know what I find!
