Default Start stop button cracked

I just noticed that I have a circular crack on the right hand side of my start stop button. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I can't find just the button online. I'm hoping to just be able to swap the button out and not have to replace the whole center assembly. Thanks.

Actually the dealer just told me that the button is part of the TCM and id have to replace the whole unit at a cost of $1k plus tax including installation. I'll probably have to live with the crack if that's the only option

yes I'm just going to put pressure on the left side of the button now lol. Someday the button will totally crack in a circular fashion and fall into the TCM.

I might ask my indie mechanic if there's any fix that can be done to at least strengthen the button so it doesn't totally break or even glue a piece of plastic onto the button that covers the outer edges of the circle so that takes pressure off of the cracked area.

Yes I checked eBay and there's no oe parts for the xf (only generic Chinese products). I came across a salvage TCM for around 70 pounds but I'd rather not have to get another TCM installed and programmed.

Lol that's actually a good idea. I might try that. That button looks like the perfect size.

Try to found on eBay the start/stop button from Aston Martin or broken TCM module and replace button. The new on module will cost about 500GBP, if you install used one TCM module, during update some modules or program new keys became impossible mission...

If you have salvage TCM module, just disassembly it and take out Start/Stop button and install to yours TCM module in car.

If you have the skills, open up the console and look at it. In the parts list it looks like the actual start switch is mounted below the button you see. Maybe you can superglue the underside of the button crack.

Thanks for the advice all. I've enlisted the help of a UK parts supplier. He's trying to find me a stop start button. If that fails I'll either buy a used TCM and take out the button or try to repair my cracked button.

Better found faulty in good cosmetic condition TCM and replace button, please note it needs about a hour for disassemble floor console and 19-15 minutes for replace button.

Thanks for the tip. I have a couple leads on full TCM units but am waiting for my contact in the uk to let me know if he can source just the button for me. I assume if just the button is replaced the TCM will not need to be reprogrammed, correct?

I have a 2010 xf and this seems to be a problem with the thin plastic on the start/stop button The center of mine completely detached and fell into the hollow. From what I've researched, there is no part replacement other then replacing the console for around $750 not counting labor. A cheaper $3.00 fix is to order this cabinet knob and place it in the hollow plastic button. Works great for me and looks like it belongs there.

Thanks for the link. Mine hasn't completely broken yet but if it does this seems like a good remedy.

Default Problem Solved

I found a quick, $8.00 and very effective solution.

This is advertised as a decal but it is actually a button cover. My button was gone, it literally a hoke where the button cover use to be. I would start the car from the outer rim of the button.

The cover is thick and semi-flexible. It comes with its own adhesive. For heavy use you may want to cutout a circle from a fast food plastic cup and use that as backing. Super glue may also be an option for heavy use. I just used it as-is, it works and looks great. For a cracked button I would just use it as-is.

This is a great tip. I asked a friend in the USA to purchase this exact item for me and bring it with him when he next visited the UK. I've glued the knob onto the top of the starter button column and it looks better than the original button. The brushed nickel surface matches the rest of the console very well, and the non-Jaguar owner would likely presume this is the standard fitment. I am really pleased with this $9 repair, much preferable to £450 at the Jaguar dealer! Thanks Darryl.
