My son and I were bemused that my XF gas cap door doesn't lock when the car is locked or in motion . You just open or close the door which means anybody can syphon your gas. Great feature. Son says it was confirmed with US model XFs too. Comment?

I found this odd as well. It's a common feature on most cars today. Then again.... do people still siphon gas? You can always get a locking gas cap.

 

That's pretty normal now. As a matter of fact, a lot of cars don't even have the cap anymore.

You will find most also have a screen or mesh in the tube to the tank, preventing people from getting a tube down there.

 

Do you have your key fob in your pocket when you have this happen? The gas cap, like the doors seems to respond to the proximity of the key, along with the folding side view mirrors. I will have to try mine with the fob in the house.

There's no locking pin assembly inside the gas receiver door. There's a hole for it, and a hole in a tab attached to the door for the pin, but no pin.
