Default Installing Radar Detector

I am looking to install my Escort Max radar detector from the rear view mirror via a blendmount. Any suggestions on were to get power? were is the closest fuse panel?

I had my max360 installed just to the top left by the mirror. Installers ran power under headliner down to fuse panel by passenger footwell (by the door). I chose the smart cord, and they tucked the remote on the left side of the rubber tray near the start button.

Very clean install, paid about $150 for them to do it. Radar works perfect in my car. I don't have the heated windshield though....

Check out this thread on XE forum:

Just to be on a safe side I'd install it behind the dotted portion of a windshield. It might even carry additional benefit of concealment.

You most likely loose Laser notifications, but without the shifters it's a notification to stop for the ticket anyway

Doesn't work with the blend mount, I called them and they will take it back so that is good. Questionable results trying to get it to shoot through the dotted area as well, Guess I will put this detector in my truck and save up for a remote unit to install in the XFS.

Remote is the best. Check out my front setup:

I use AntiLaser Priority (ALP) as laser shifters. Their CPU also has an option to work with the number of Radar Detector antennas (like Escort 9500ci, Bel StIR+, NetRadar etc...) I chose an antenna made by Radenso. Called HD+. You can see it right above the Jaguar front emblem. So I kind of saved on the merged installs - instead of using 2 independent systems I use ALP and just the HD+ antenna. Most of the manufacturers can sell them separately now.

I installed it at a local Best Buy. I know the installer for many years, and he is waaay overqualified to work for the BB, yet does it anyway

Actually it wasn't that hard to install (he says). It also took me couple of days to set up to my liking, but I already have one save from a speed trap in IA. The rabbit I was following got nailed. I was trying to worn her, but she ignored my flashing lights. Oh well...

Edit: It actually looks virtually invisible from a distance, I like it a lot.

Excellent, I will certainly check out the link. I have had excellent radar detection in my previous cars for numerous years, and it's save on several occasions so I am certainly interested. Moving forward I have never had an installed remote system.

This is my second remote install. The first one is 5 y.o. and I still have that car. My son is driving it now.

Nowadays the challenges for radar detectors are much bigger than before. It's not enough to have a good range to alert you in time anymore. Now police is using what's called a low power radar guns (not in CA AFAIK, but in Europe and Canada mostly. It is slowly moving to US though). As a result the sensitivity must be tremendous.

But significantly bigger number of cars around you use BSM (blind spot monitoring), which, coincidentally, used the same RF frequency as LEO on K band. RD has to filter out those false alerts properly. You can buy a cheap detector with the great range but you will drive with constant beeps because it will pick every car with BSM around you as well as every possible automatic door opener in the nearest street mall..

So choose wisely
