I have a 2012 XF - yesterday my low coolant light came on. This a.m. after letting it sit overnight raised hood and snapped a pic - it was just right at under the cold fill line. The shop where I take my car is closed on the weekend so I went and had it topped off at another place - they didn't even charge me saying that it was barely low. Light went off - it came back on this afternoon after letting it cool a couple of hours I checked and its full. Is it safe to drive if its got coolant - wondering a short or something? Thank you so much for any input!

 

Haven't had the issue on my XF, but on other cars I've had things like that caused by an air bubble that happens to form where the sensor is. Just keep an eye on the engine temperature, if its in the normal range you don't have a "real" issue, but if the temperature starts jumping up, shut the car off immediately.

You car is an earlier XF, so go to the X250 forum to see if theer's any common issues with the coolant light on those cars.

I really appreciate your information. This a.m. I checked level - it had not budged and light is off. On my dash I don't have a temp area....I have never had a car without that? Three "circles" to the left is speed, center is where the low coolant light is on and to the right is RPM. I can see the floater in the 7:00 position at top of the tank.
