Rear brake service mode
Has anyone successfully put the e-brake / rear brakes into service mode without using a OBD2 tool?
I have tried the YouTube way of ignition on, e-brake down for 2 seconds then full accelerator pedal for 2 seconds then ignition off and back on, but every time the e-brake reapplies.
Most links reference the x250 but hoped the x260 matched the XE process but no luck.
My scan tool doesn't seem to like the XF so I do not dare try and use it.
Thanks
Andy

The manual method is unreliable on the X260. The procedure you tried often fails.
A common alternative is: Ignition on, engine off. Release the parking brake with a single press. Within two seconds, press and hold the accelerator for 5-7 seconds until you hear the actuator cycle.
If that doesn't work, a capable diagnostic tool is almost always required. Your scan tool's incompatibility is a known issue with these systems.

As I don't trust my code reader, I have decided to have a mechanic replace the pads at the same time they investigate an air leak after fitting the VAP symposer block-off and replacing the front arms.
The manual method works but is very timing sensitive. Parking brake to the position you want (release/apply for into or out of maintenance mode), count to 2, floor gas, count to two, cycle ignition. Start the process with the E brake already released. It should not be releasing when you are holding the button, should be already off. Try it a bit faster or slower but it works.
