Default Sportbrake resale questions

I'm a current Honda Odyssey driver who had a 2011 XF and traded it in for the Odyssey when my kids were smaller. I'd love to get back into a Jag and absolutely love the sportbrake, but am a little frightened about it's possible resale a few years from now. There is a dealer about 100 miles away that currently has 4-5 of them for sale, all are listed as new. They are 2018 models that had MSRPs from $74-82k, but they have marked them all down by $20k. I'm worried that these cars didn't go over well in the states and that, as a result, the resale value 4-5 years from now is going to absolutely tank. I asked them if they would lease one to me for 3 years, but they said that because they are 2018 models that they cannot. They have assured me that none of them have been titled. Similarly, a dealer closer to me had one on their lot for 6 months and I saw it marked down to about $15-18k off sticker. That one has finally sold, as it is no longer on their website.

Anyone have any thoughts on the resale value of these? I know Jags aren't the best resale, but the fact they are marked down so much and still not selling is a bit scary.

Although XJs and XJs are said to have bad depreciation, it really isn't worse than other comparable cars like a BMW or Mercedes. You can reasonably expect any car in this class to lose 50% over 3 years. If that's a problem, consider buying after the depreciation has happened. My 2015 XJ has lost 60% of its value, which made it a great deal for me.

First time poster, been searching this Forum for a while now for posts about the XF's and especially the SportBrake and don't see any reason to not buy one, the first time I saw one last year I knew I wanted one and now can finally take the plunge. I'm going to drive this one sometime this week, hopefully tomorrow, with it already being discounted $20K I almost feel bad about trying to even negotiate more.

There are so many others around the country also discounted $20K from their list price.
FWIW, I have been considering a used 2014 -2016 MB e63 Wagon after its taken the huge hit in depreciation and from reading the MB Forums most people agree a new one depreciates about $1K a month for the first 3 years. So if you spent $110K new in 3 years it would be worth somewhere in the mid $70's, about what most 2016's are selling for now.

Not quite 50%, but a good example:

Although having a wagon that can compete with a McClaren seems fun, I think a new 2018 SportBrake, or Certified used makes so much more sense.

Just a thought - you can lease a brand new F-pace for $459 a month right now. $4000 down.

$1K a month was what they were charging for a lease on a new XJ recently.

Yes, interesting to think about an F-Pace Lease, I haven't really considered an F-Pace until recently. I wish the Lease was also available on the S trim with same engine as the SportBrake, 3.0 SuperCharged V-6. Will be interesting to see how much an F-Pace SVR sells for in a year or so, that's getting into Mercedes AMG performance.

As a habitual car trader, I too thought about the resale value of my SportBrake. I figured that since I got around 20K off sticker that would give me the cushion I needed. However, after looking at/driving this beast every day I honestly don't know what could make me want to give it up! Resale be damned I love it! (the low production rate should help stabilize the price drop more so than other Jags!)
