Default What should I offer for a 2017 XF S

I visited the local Jaguar dealer last month and they are asking me to make an offer on an XF. I saw in other forums that people are getting XF's for steep discounts.

The list price is $79,500 and they have already discounted it to $74,000. What would be a "reasonable" offer? I don't want to pay too much, but don't want to insult anyone ...

It's an XF - S with the upgraded sound system, adaptive cruise control, and parking assist.
Thanks for any advice!

-Dan

Is it new or already registered. And was it a dealer test drive car or is it zero miles on the lot? Warranty starts when they register it, not when you buy it so could have best part of a year of warranty already done. And if it has some test drive miles that will hit value too.

I'd have thought you should be looking at a lot more discount than that for a 2017 model now. I'd be pushing for 10-15k off msrp. If it's just sitting there it's not earning them anything...

Some sites like truecar will let you price up what people are actually paying

I would not worry about insulting anyone.
It's just business and you are the customer.

BritCars and clubairth1 - Thanks for your advice. The dealer gave up when I countered at 15K below. If the car's still there in a couple of months (it's been on the lot for at least 2 already) I'll try again.

$64K = about 20% discount and that's what they've been going for at the best deal. You have much more room to negotiate than their offer to begin with.

Agreed. I'd say sit tight and see where they stand in a couple of months,..

My XF-S was around $78K new, I got if for $68K so take $10K off of the original price and may be offer that so $69K.

You absolutely must not fall for sales tricks like that. This is negotiation, if salesperson could be insulted by an offer, they wouldn't be a very good salespeople - they would be too scandalized to function.

I was going to say offer $69K as well. The 2018's are already in port, I would think, if not on their way to the dealers by now.
