Default whine under bonnet

just bought a 2013 Jag xf and awaiting delivery of the handbook but after turning engine off I hear a whine under the bonnet, it seems like a warning signal rather than a danger sound from the engine.
this is my 4th XF and never had this before

Have you had a look in there to see if there is anything moving ? Sometimes cooling fans can run after the engine is shut down

thanks, doesn't sound like that, more of a high steady note, but will check when 'she who must be obeyed' returns

Welcome to the forums Tony,

A 2013 XF is an X250 - the current model introduced in 2015 is the X260.
