Default XF Sport Brake Rim/Wheel Size

Looking to get new set of rims for winter for my 2018 Sport Brake which has 20" rims but it seems any reduction in rim size has brake issues. So are 20 inch only option?
Also looking for tires with wider walls to get away from low profile.

Tire rack says you can go to 18", but not 17". I am interested in the same thing, so I'll be watching this thread.

Can't speak to the <20" options, but I just swapped snows onto the existing 20" and it performed great. Went with Continental Viking Contact 7. Low profile was not an issue performance-wise and I just try to avoid pot-holes here in the Northeast. Also wasn't ready to buy an alternate set of wheels for the winter but might do so the next cycle, but mostly because it will save money over the long run (tire swap expense).

I just picked up a Craigslist set of 4 wheels from a 2017 Ford Edge, 18x8, 5x108, with +52 offset (+12 over stock, but 1/2 inch narrower wheel) and I test fit it (without tire) and no problems. I have to find a used 245/45 R18 tire to mount up and make sure it works, but so far, looks good.
@JaguarJack12 I'm in San Francisco, CA, so I'll just be using Snows for weekend trips to Tahoe. With a floor jack, I can change out all 4 wheels in 1 hour.

@Marlow42 Ok, I just test fit the 18" wheel with a 245/45/ R18 and they work perfectly. I was mistaken on the offset of the factory Jag wheels, they are +49 offset, so my 18s are just +3 off on a 1/2" narrower wheel, so i may have gained a bit of clearance.
I currently have the Pirelli P7's on the stock wheels in a stock size 255/35 R20. Comparing that tire to a Continental Viking Contact winter tire in 245/45/ R18, they are the same weight, but the 18 is .4" smaller in diameter, with the exact same tread width and .8" narrower Section width.
Hit Craigslist in your area and go to tires and wheels, then type in 5x108 18 and see what comes up.
good luck,
Jared
