'12 XF 5.0 Base - Throttle Actuator issues
Hey XF owners,
I get all of these following codes randomly, whether pulling out, accelerating, set speed or on the highway - I get restricted Performance and the engine shuts down:
P061A - Internal control unit torque performance
P2135 - Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch A/B voltage correlation Throttle position sensor A voltage correlation
P2105 - Throttle Actuator control system - forced engine shutdown
Also, I get this ABS error randomly:
U0401 - Invalid data received from engine control unit/powertrain control unit
If I clear the codes, the car starts again and is fine. This could happen 2 or 3 times during a 10 mile trip.
I've replaced the throttle body (which contains the Throttle position sensor) with a OEM used one with matching part number to the original. I've also replaced the gas pedal, which contains the pedal position sensor. I've done a hard reset (pos+neg battery cable touch) and reset/relearned the ECM.
A new throttle body is special order ($600 - not returnable) - and I'd hate to spend the money and not fix the problem.
I've considered a reflash ($200) - but again, might do nothing.
Any ideas?

I think you need a better scanner?
Can you get the car hooked up to SDD? I think there are more codes to be found.
Here is a thread with some of your codes that might help? It was pointing to replacing the ECM which is a mess and I would avoid that if possible and I am not sure how you would even do it?
I think we need more information too. Note that we never did get him to report back if he got his car fixed or not?
Sorry not much help but I will say you have a pretty rare code with P061A!

I think there are some more codes that scanner can't see? Just a guess?
If the PCM is the problem I am not sure how to go about replacing it as the other thread did not have a final solution as the problem did not come back.
Can you monitor the pedal position in real time with the that scanner? If your still getting the error then the car is seeing something that does not match.
But again the other thread suggested to remove and inspect the PCM plug. Spray the connections clean and check grounds.
I guess the good thing is you can clear the codes so maybe the PCM is not bad just a problem with connections somewhere?

Just an update...FYI I bought the car 2 months ago, first XF, so everything is new to me - I recall that when I removed the plug from the throttle body (TPS sensor) there was no clip; when I replaced the throttle body, and plugged in the TPS sensor, there was no 'click'. Fast forward, one morning the car wouldn't start or release from Restricted Performance mode, so I checked the plug and it was not tight - it had jiggled loose from engine vibration and was not making the proper connection. After securing that, I have had no issues or codes for 3 days. At this time I believe it is fixed.
I'll update in about a week to confirm that the issue has been resolved.
The upside is that since I did not panic and did my research on parts, so I only spent $80 to troubleshoot ($60 for the throttle body and $20 for the gas pedal). If I checked the plug first, I could have saved that as well!

Thanks for reporting back as I am still amazed at all that can happen from something as simple as a plug not being fully seated!
