Default 20" Donut (Spare for XF 20"?)

Changed my rims from the 18s to 20s, got a flat tire, and couldn't use the spare as it was for the 18s. Got me thinking I should probably get another spare which would work with my 20 selenas.

Went to the tire store to ask about it, they said they couldn't find donut for this type, but could get a complete rim & tire package for something like 330 (basic tires). Can a complete spare wheel (20 Selena + Tires) fit in that same spare tire compartment under the trunk - has anyone tried - is this space the same dimensions on a XF base vs a XF supercharged for example? I am wondering if it can fit, and flush as the spare is. May not be ideal if it sticks out of the boot's floor!

Anyone know about this - or any advice, much appreciated, thanks!

A spare 20" wheel + tyre will fit in the hollow, I tried it on both my XFS and XFR.
But if you have the premium sound system with a sub-woofer under the spare it will stick up a lot, from memory about 7 or 8 cm, which will destroy the usability of the boot/trunk.
And even with the base sound system (like I had on my XFS) without a sub-woofer it will stick up 2 or 3 cm, enough to be a hassle because the floor panel will no longer sit flat.
What you need is the Jag OEM 19" space saver spare (a skinny orange monstrosity) which fits easily even with a sub-woofer in place and even clears the front 380 mm brake calipers if you have those brakes.
Usually a few for sale on Fleabay.

Does the below look like it would fit? Also I am curious why the existing 18 spare tyre I have wouldn't work with the the other 3 20" tires I have, whereas this 19 spare tyre would? I'm not knowledgeable about tyres but from what I gathered they only fit if the inch sizes match?

I am just looking to avoid difficulty with fitment should I get another flat and the tire has to be changed.

Lastly - I am wondering how to release the existing spare tyre from the trunk. Is there a latch/button? It seemed to me like it was fixed in place. How heavy are these things - and is the factory 18" donut spare called the JAG OEM 18" space saver spare? I would be looking to put mine on Fleabay to exchange that for the below..

Also how did your transition from the XFS & R go to the F Type? Would be very curious to know as I am contemplating a move myself.. THanks

Presumably the 19" spare comes with a higher profile tyre than the selenas, so it makes up for the smaller rim diameter by adding more tyre depth to give the same wheel rolling radius?

Yes, the one in that ad will fit.
I'm also curious to know why you reckon your existing 18" spare won't fit/work if you haven't even taken it out of the trunk to try it.
It's also not at all clear if it is a full size spare or a space saver but I'm guessing it is a space saver, in which case it should fit OK.
Only two possible problems with the 18" space saver:
1. It might be a bit too much smaller in diameter than the other three 20" tyres which would throw out the wheel speed ABS and DSC sensors, but I doubt it and I suspect it would be very much the same overall diameter as the 20s. Easy enough to measure them to check
2. If you have the 380 mm front brakes it won't fit over the calipers, but I very much doubt you have those brakes as your car previously had 18" wheels on it.
All XFs that I know of have the spare / space saver held down with a rod through the centre hole that screws into a threaded hole below with a "T" piece on top, just grab the T piece and twist it off anti-clockwise to release the spare.

All up it seems to me that you already have an 18" space-saver that will work perfectly OK as a temporary spare for your 20" rims.

About the XFS, as I am in Oz and we are RHD the same as the UK the Oz XFS is/was a 3 litre twin turbo V6 diesel and not the same as the old US XFS.
Lots of torque, more than the XFR after I tuned it, but not as responsive as the XFR as it didn't really get going until the second turbo kicked in at 2,800 RPM whereas the XFR had instant shove from just off idle. The XFS would run out of puff at 4,000 RPM while the XFR pulled strong to 6,500 RPM. The XFR was also more luxurious and better equipped than the XFS as mine was very much a "base spec" XFS while the XFR came loaded as standard.

Thanks for your very informative post! Only relying on what I was told from an AAA technician who I called out for help with putting a spare on so I could drive it to nearby tire shop. Unfortunately I do not know how to change a tire.. But yes I have no idea in reality if it would work or not. Of interest we have a 14 XF which runs on 19"s, which I showed him the 19" donut in the trunk of that XF as well and he said that wouldnt work either. Made it sound to me like you need the exact donut for the car...He called out the tow service and it was towed into the tire shop.

Well, I kind of hope he might have not known, because if I could just keep the 18 space saver which would work, that would be ideal! I might take it into the dealer as well to ask if I could just keep the existing donut and if that would work with the 20 selena. I really hope so-

Interesting to hear about the R and S differences... How is the F Type different to the XF's have you found?

Thanks again

The F-Type is a completely different car in almost every way - a two door two seat sports/GT with a much more modern layout and tech, a firmer ride, tighter handling and in my case a screaming V6 vs a luxury 4 door saloon with an "old worlde" interior, a softer ride, more relaxed low down grunt but still plenty of performance when you want it.
And of course the looks - the XF is still a good looking car after all these years (remember the X250 came out 11 years ago) but the F-Type is in another league.
