Default 2008 xf 2.7v6 sets off in 2nd

Hello as the thread title suggests.. i`m here wondering if others have a similar issue..

my 2008 2.7v6 diesel xf sets off in 2nd all the time..i can manually select first with the paddles but it will not automatically select first.. does anyone else have this or any ideas as to why it does this.?

i`ve had the car for approx 18months now and its done it from the outset .. it had a gearbox module failure last christmas and was replaced with a new one and it is still the same..

so it makes me wonder if this is normal..or symptoms of a different issue.

I know when you select the "winter driving mode" the car will always pull away in 2nd gear. Possibly related?

I have expierenced the same issue on my grandmas XF 3.0 XFS . faulty accelerator part # AJ19058 or CZ29056 . just replace driver with agressive one, ZF will adapt to new driving style and it will be OK

Many debates about this and the general consensus is that the ZF6HP26 in the early XF normally starts in 2nd gear but you can get it to start in 1st gear by using the left paddle.
In some cases it may be possible to get it to start in 1st gear without using the left paddle by putting it in Dynamic and Sport and driving aggressively for a while.

I got fed up with the debates so used the gear indicator in SDD to prove that the ZF6HP26 in my old '07 XKR always dropped in to first gear when the car came to a halt in D. I would be surprised if the XF doesn't do the same and it is easy to check for anyone who has access to SDD.

I have since done the same with my '10 XKR and the ZF6HP28 in that always drops in to 1st gear unless the car is in snow mode or in flappy paddle mode.
