2010 Jag XF - Reset Service Light - HELP
All the owner's manual says is that the "dealer will reset the light". I'm not going to the dealer for an oil change since the nearest dealer is 250 miles away. I found instructions by searching the forum and I thought I was following them exactly
Press and hold the rear lamp switch (while the ignition is on).
Press the start button without applying the foot brake.
Release the rear fog lamp switch.
Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch.
Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch.
Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.
The message center should display "resseting service mode" and then "service mode reset"
Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off.
It resets the trip odometer and says "Press brake to start engine", so obviously I am doing something wrong. Also, I have a Tire Pressure Sensor warning (because the TPS were not installed with the winter tires/rims). Is that causing a problem? And this may be a stupid question, but what does 'while the ignition in on" mean? I simply got in the car with the key and followed the instructions. Should I be doing something to turn the ignition "on"?
Hopefully someone can help.......
Cheers

You are following the right process, but you may need to practice the timing of it to get it to work. The only modern Jag vehicles that this reset procedure doesn't work on are the US market X351's and the post-2012 British and Indian market X351's, so yours will work fine. Just follow this thread:

It takes a few tries to get the timing just right..lol
Had my 2012 XF back from annual service 7 days ago and next day "service required" still showed on dash. I called the service writer who said to bring the car back for the reset. Well I didn't take kindly to this as they are 45 minutes away. He rather reluctantly gave me the same instructions as quoted by Mr Britcars and Mr Ozxfr above. Well, I tried this 10 or 12 times without success. One potential problem is that we do not appear to have a rear fog lamp or switch on California cars but we do have what appears to be a front fog lamp switch and no fog lamp. Who knows if this is connected to anything? I just tried to reset again using your collective input above: 2 seconds several times . No success. Anyone got any other ideas? other then driving the 45 minutes each way to the dealership.
Do you do any of your own work on the car? If so, buy a code reader with jag specific features. E.g. I bought the iCarSoft LR II which is about 170 dollars and has full code reading, Jag specific diagnostics and features like check engine light reset
Else ask them if one of their techs lives out your way and have them swing past you with a code reader and reset it one morning or evening

The fog lamps on a XF (including California, LOL) are a super-bright set of rear tail lamps to make the car much more visible in heavy fog. There are no front fog lamps. There is only one fog lamp switch, and it is connected to the rear lamps. If you keep trying you will eventually get the hang of it.
