Default 2010 XF leak

My 2010 XF with 78,000 miles suddenly developed a link somewhere in the engine compartment. I took it to my local mechanic who quickly diagnosed the problem as a loose hose clamp. He told me the hose was fine, tighten up the hose clamp and no further leaks. How is it possible for a hose clamp suddenly begin to leak for no apparent reason. The mechanic did say he repositioned the clamp too. Anyone have an idea what is going on?
