2010 XF or XFR checklist ?
Hi all
Sort of part of the family already with a LR3 and am thinking it may be time to turn in the Audi S4 from 04.
I love the new F-Type coupe but am not bad enough to buy one yet. So in the meantime I've seen a couple of XF S and XFR with local dealers. Coming from the S4 I know how a maintenance queen can be and I'm wondering if you have a sticky or any advice for known issues for those model years and versions.
If I've missed something obvious please excuse and point me in the right direction... :-)
Thanks!

2010 XF or XFR checklist ?
Things to look for and think about when purchasing 2010 XFR:
1. Dash leather bubbling
2. Water pump leaking
3. Sunroof clips rattling over bumps
4. Differential making noise/vibration when turning at low speed
5. Battery not original (will die soon if it is)
6. Rims straight (they bend easily)
7. Driver's license not already in jeopardy
8. Friends always wanting to go in your car
9. Averaging 16 MPG of Premium
10. Eating performance rubber at fairly quick rate.
You really need to take a few days to go through the last 500 or so threads on this forum for a cursory look at the topics. So much of this is covered in those and you'll have a better idea of what you should look for. I did it before I pulled the trigger and still had some issues that came up. Good thing was I still had factory warranty for 6 mos. to get everything straightened out. You will not have that luxury.
You should also check the Jaguar service records and pay for an independent inspection either at the dealer or a trustworthy shop.
The info is all here. Now choose wisely.

I don't know anything about used XF prices in the US, but a quick look at this ad tells me it might be a bargain. Only 32,000 miles and fully loaded with pretty much every possible option, including red zone interior, active cruise control, Jaguar Voice, and sunroof, all of which are relatively rare. It also has chrome wheels and what looks like new tyres. The only thing it might be missing is the reversing camera, but I suspect it would have that.
Well worth a look at!

Well now an XF Supercharged has shown up at a local dealer. It's a 2011 model and I think the 5.0L supercharged claims 470HP vs the XFR at 510HP. I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and ask would I be disappointed in the 5.0L Supercharged if I never drove an XFR ? I'm coming from a 4.2L NA V8 Audi S4 which claims 350HP with a comparable body weight....
You know it was much easier when you just left this kind of stuff to Santa to sort out ;-)

I have never driven either of the Supercharged XF's..But being in the NA 390 HP 5.0..All I can say, I can't imagine how much better the power is in the SC'd models..I personally don't think 40 HP between those two will make a hill of beans in difference. Go with which has fewer miles and best options and of course what the pocket book will allow in good conscious.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas

I've driven an SC and an XFR. First 2 gears off the line, not much difference (traction dependent). Top end is different. But remember, if you buy an SC, you can get it tuned to get the engine performance. What you can't get is the body changes, the better seats and the exclusivity of the XFR.

true,,, you can tune the XFS to the same power specs as the XFR but you don't get the added R sporty things seats, hood, suspension a little different...if i was choosing id get the XFR love my XFS, but its not the top ; ) now compared to the Audi.... well that's laughable....you will find this out as soon as you drive one....my 8000lb truck blows those away.... go get it...

As kyanite says you can tune the SC if you really care for the extra 40hp. But having driven both I really doubt you will feel the extra 40hp on a daily basis. The SC is a relative bargain - all that power at a lower price point. But agreed that the SC doesn't have all the visual trims of the XFR.
So - if price difference is small / not really a factor I'd of course say take the R. But my vote would be to go with the age/mileage first (a 2010 XFR in the 30k range is terrific - what's the comparable 2011 SC), colour next (that red interior is striking but not everyone's taste...). And would pay less attention to XFR vs SC
I'm sure you will be very happy either way
Let us know what you decide or if any other questions

So the "alternative" is a more local 2011XFSC in black with 54K miles at around $27K.
When running the VIN against JLR's Topix site I've seen a number of cars have an outstanding campaign - J056Reprogram ECM. Anybody know what that was/is supposed to cure as Google is blissfully ignorant ?
The XFSC has a more relaxed ivory trim interior - the seats are more comparable in the XFR to the ones I have in the S4 (Recaro style) but I'm not sure how heavy on the eyes that red leather is in person.
It is very tempting to just say to heck with it, in for a penny in for a pound and chase down the XFR...seems like a number of others might have made a similar decision in retrospect.

My dealer did that ECM reprogram for me... wasn't specific on what it was supposed to cure. Call a local dealer and ask if the program is still active; most likely it is and you can just get the reflash after you purchase.
Why not just wait a few weeks and see what else pops up for the XFR? Personally I'm in love with my black on black interior. The red looks a bit aggressive...
Cheers, Will
