The best thing you can do for diesel motors is clean oils and oil filters along with new fuel filters and air filters on a regular basis and they hopefully go forever. It's cheap when you consider the benefits. I tend to agree with you regarding the idling will be the only benefit you will see and that should be smoother.Good luck and please keep us updated.
