So my 2012 XF had some problems starting and draining, went to get it checked and comes back with the ECU needs to be replaced. Only issue is that the price is a rather extreme option right now. Saw some things suggesting I replace it for several grand cheaper and saw some things talking about specific vins and inti theft issues. I know thats the case for earlier jag models around year 2000 but didn't see anything for more relevant models like in 2012. If it is something as simple as replacing it with an ECU from a similar model then great, but just want to make sure that getting a much cheaper ECU and plugging that in or potentially taking the newer functional ECU to get reprogrammed is an option thats worth my time and money. What do you suggest?

 

Who says it needs to be replaced? Maybe they are wrong...

That's if they even mean the PCM. Must be about a dozen ECUs...

Very rare the ecu goes bad unless under water, what is the problem, you can use a used ecu for replacement if it got wet ,and easy to program
