2010 XF Supercharged. So there is a TSB involving what is called the accessory drive pulley on some XF vehicles. Humming or whining noise heard while vehicle at idle. Condition occurs in park, or in gear. Dealer quotes 500 dollars for replacement. Does that price sound acceptable/accurate? Unfortunately the pulley appears to be a dealer only part. Thank you.
Can't believe it's a dealer part only? Makes no sense as I have changed idler pulleys before. It really very simple and getting to it is the hardest part.
See if you can get a part number but if you can't DIY repairs you are going to be at the mercy of the dealer!

The TSB number is JTB00423NAS2. Part number is C2D51367. The dealer claims the part alone is 175 dollars, then are charging over 2 hours in labor. 500 dollars sounds very pricey to me for an idler pulley. Unless it's very difficult to access.
I changed the water pump and the idler pulley on mine last year, as well as both drive belts, whilst fixing the leaking oil cooler hoses. I wouldn't do it for $500. As with anything else you might want to do on these engines, access is, well, very difficult. Getting to it isn't just the hardest part, it's 95% of the job.
Yeah, I know from experience w replacing parts in the XF, not a lot of room to work with in many areas. So you feel the 500 dollar quote from the dealer is reasonable? If so I will go through with the repair, otherwise will let Independent Jag shop handle it. Thanks.
Yeah, the dealer is claiming the part costs 175 dollars, then the rest is all labor, like 2+ hours of labor to get to the 500 dollar price point. It does sound like they are price gouging, I have a lot of distrust for the local dealer unfortunately.

The part description says 3.0 supercharged so I'm thinking your car must be the V6? If so, I would expect there must be much more room at the front of the engine than in the V8. I only have experience with my own which is the 4.2 SV8 and there is barely room to insert a steel rule at the front and rear of the engine. If this job is done without the need to remove the radiator etc, then 2 hours labor sounds reasonable.
I am taking the vehicle to a local Jag Independent shop. I need the humming sound fully diagnosed to see which pulley actually needs replaced. The humming sound I hear occurs at idle, while vehicle is in park or in gear. The sound quiets as the engine warms up, but is always present. Cannot be heard while driving.

Nup, the V6 and V8 have the same basic block externally as the V6 was derived from the V8.
The fronts of the two engines are pretty much identical and they sit on the same engine mounts in the same place so no more room at the front on the V6.
A little more room in the top-rear area of the V6 as it uses a smaller supercharger (Eaton TVS R1320 vs Eaton TVS R1900) with shorter coolant jackets and the missing length is all at the rear.

Interesting. I know the belts & pulleys on my engine are horrendous to access.

On the F-Type at least several owners here have replaced belts and pulleys without too much hassle, usually with a combined attack from both top and bottom.
Never done it myself but apparently one of the secrets to easier access from the top is to remove the central Y piece air intake tube.
See if this will help you do the job JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource I did this a few weeks ago and it was not painful. And yes I should have replaced the idler pulley but for whatever the reason I did not. Shame on me..
