Been reading with interest the threads Regarding aftermarket warranties. I bought my car last year for a great price, asked about the coverage and for 3600 for 12,000 miles I decided to skip it ( figuring I would most repairs myself) Already have driven for 13K so would have been a waste since the car was great until a few months ago.
Based on prices for parts and my limited time I was thinking again about it. AAA has a plan for 3200 and 12 months. Since i THINK the Supercharger Coupler is going and THINK the rear coolant pipe is as well, and THINK the water pump is seeping and THINK one of the Mechanical pumps might be as well.
That on top of the potential for the Timing chain needing replacement ( although I have the 2013 V6, not sure if the issue is as bad on these motors)
Anyway after read here and Mr. Google I am not sure its worth it to get any policy since they all seem to fight every claim.
Any more thoughts on the value of getting a plan for the V6 and whether the timing chain issue may be worth it. It would be appreciated before I decide to get the work done
I Read the coverage and it seems it might work out in my favor IF the timing chain goes. I can get the Coupler and pipe done for 2000 and pump for 650. Leaves me 600 difference for the timing chain IF they cover 100% of the prices.
I was thinking if i hear any timing chain starting to buzz I might get the coverage and wait a bit to have the other parts done ( and drive the spare car for a few more months) until coverage kicks in and have the work done then.
My only thought is that the plan is considered BREAKDOWN coverage. The pipe may not be covered since they do not cover HOSES and the plan does not seem to cover coolant

1. Extended warranties are underwritten by insurance companies. Insurance companies make a profit by collecting premiums and not by paying out claims. Usually, what they consider "normal" wear & tear is not covered. Read the fine print. "Let the buyer beware".
2. As for me personally, due to serious health issues my cardiologist advised me to purchase neither extended warranties nor green bananas.

Pretty much if you own a jaguar you can just about guarantee a repair within 12 months.
My car is in need of repair, so will definitely be using it. I have read the contract so it seems like I would be covered, and the coverage starts in 1000 miles and 30 days, got that covered too.
I guess what I am worried about is the amount of times I have seen on teh boards that the companies do not honor the warranty for some reason or another.
I guess it's like if you know you are gong to die in 12 months and were able to get a life insurance policy should you take it....
I bought my 2015 about a month ago with 45K miles, did a good amount of shopping around including the dealer promoted aftermarket warranty, ended up purchasing a plan from Infinite Auto Protection which had the far away lowest premium $2334 total upfront (with a 25% discounted promotion at the time, also got $0 deductible) for 5 years/+75K miles (until 120K), this was less than half the cost the dealer offered for 4year/50K although dealer claimed bumper to bumper coverage while this one has a decently extensive list of covered components that seems to claim to cover a lot of major issues(timing chain/water pump being key)
I'll copy the main coverage terms for those interested, they had overall pretty good reviews on ConsumerAffairs also:

I'll copy the main coverage terms for those interested, they had overall pretty good reviews on ConsumerAffairs also:

I would really like to hear from those who have purchased an extended warranty and have used it? Were you satisfied or dissatisfied with your purchase?Originally Posted by Jssaab

I bought my 2012 XFR from Carvana and opted for 48 mo/57k mile warranty (from date of purchase - 90k miles total!). It added $3100 to the $33,400 (with 33,266 miles). It seemed like a total no-brainer.
In 18 months and 23k miles, I have used it for an alternator, a wheel bearing, a pair of oxygen sensors, all of which added up well over the $3100 for the warranty. I would be afraid of this car and not bought it were it not for the warranty. The dealer has said working with SilverRock has been easy and they have not hassled them, just paid the bills without trouble. All I get is the fixed car and pay the $50 deductible.

not yet used it as I've barely had the car over a month and just put about 1500 miles on it so far, not expecting any major issues for a while just wanted something that would at least cover my bases for the common big ticket failures and random other things that can go bad on the path to 100K. Looking over the bad reviews at least many of them seem to be from people trying to claim within the 1st month/1K waiting period and/or for pre-existing conditions. Hopefully they're just not much tougher on honoring claims than long term the typical warranty company.
Are you saying you paid $3200 for a year from AAA? that seems more than double what even a Jaguar dealer would be charging for the top tier policy matching mfg warranty..

slightly related for my previous car 2004 Lincoln Aviator which I bought around 2011 had about a year left of aftermarket warranty through Mercury(who might have discontinued offering this type of policy) which I extended about 4 more years, cost a bit more but it was a more inclusive coverage which only excluded a list of named components designed to wear out, as in everything in the car not listed as exclusion would be covered(this is what the policy option from Jag dealer supposedly is). Used it several times mainly for small issues like window motors, and some components under the hood, but the big hit it covered was when some cylinders went bad needing a major trans rebuild which was $3-4K, no issues getting anything approved that I can remember.

heres my experience with using CarChex:
first issue: alternator. happened about 6 weeks into my warranty (completely coincidental)....they denied the claim staying that this was an issue from before. The whole review process took about 3 weeks
second issue: auto light and windshield wiper sensor: happened about a year into the warranty. approved! for 80% of the cost what Jaguar quoted, plus $200 deductible
third "issue": car was making ticking sounds, took the car to jag, they diagnosed it being a timing chain issue and needed to change the whole thing. CarChex is saying that they dont need to change the whole thing, and probably just need to change the guides, but also not having a check engine light required more investigation, in which i had to approve a tear down...which I would be responsible for paying if the claim gets denied. i ended up not following through because at this point the car was already in the shop for FOUR WEEKS for "review"...and still needed to do an additional tear down...and then repairs if anything (which would have been an additional 4 weeks, if approved). I was worried they were not going to approve it, or they would only cover a small amount. decided not to move forward with it.
overall, not a good experience. however had something catastrophic actually happened, im sure paying 20% is better than 100%

that's their quote, 400 less than the dealer's vendor when I bought it. If I had gotten the dealer's it would have expired by now, before everything started to pop up (bought the car with 77K on it)Originally Posted by EliteZags

Lot's of others won't even cover the car (93K on a jaguar)

really high for just one year, did you try getting a quote from Infinite? once they give the price ask if they have some kind of Holiday promo/discount on top of thatOriginally Posted by Jssaab

No repairs yet just over a month owning the car, can look over there reviews some mixed but doesn't seem worse than other warranty companies, if the components are listed in the terms shouldn't be issue with coverage

When I got my X-Type in 2008 Jaguar was still owned by Ford. So I went to a Ford Dealer and bought a FoMoCo extended warranty. My Jaguar dealer never had a problem getting a problem covered or billing Ford for the work.
And boy did that car need a lot of work...
Interesting case in point. I was primarily still using the physical key to lock/unlock the driver's door. Remember the little "flap" that spring across the key hole to keep dust, etc., out? Well my lock stopped doing that. Well I took the car to the dealer for something else, and mentioned that problem while I was there, thinking that they would use some spray lubricant to free the flap.
Wrong, the dealer put in a claim under the Ford warranty for faulty door locks intending to replace the door/handle assembly. Unfortunately, but the time of this request (probably 2010 or 11) there were no replacement lock units anywhere in the world for Jaguar X-Types. So the Jaguar branch of Ford submitted an order for a special production of X-Type door locks. Took 6 months before the parts arrived in Boston. But the problem was fixed, and they replaced the locking units in all four doors, plus the trunk!

I worry about this clause, gives them an out for just about anything except catastrophic loss. eg. is something could have worn out over time it is not covered.
EXCLUSIONS: ANY REPAIR OF A SYSTEM, ANY EQUIPMENT OR PART IF IT IS DETERMINED THAT THERE IS A REASONABLE MECHANICAL PROBABILITY THAT THE CONDITION CAUSING THE FAILURE EXISTED PRIOR TO OR AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE OF YOUR CONTRACT, WHETHER KNOWN OR UNKNOWN AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE OF YOUR CONTRACT
So if you get the contract, go to a mechanic after say 3 months and they say you need new control arms the arms are shot, they can say , "oh those could not have gone bad in the 3 month the contract was in force, denied. "
Saw several instances of that on BBB website (turbo was worn out over time,
Also pipe and hoses not covered ( so the cross-over is not) and if wear causes the chain guides to fail they are not covered (unless they snap with no evidence of wear causing it. )

I never had a problem with auto manufacturers company extended warranty ( on my Honda pilot or my 2011 XFR) both covered bumper to bumper without an issue. its these 3rd party ones that I worry about.
I also figure 3rd party at the Jag dealer would not be bad since they use them and want you to keep coming back, they don;t want to **** you off.

every aftermarket warranty is going to have some form of that clause to protect themselves, I imagine your mechanic is going to be able to most accurately assess the origination of issues, seems after the waiting period coverage hasn't been that big of an issue for most

"FAILURE TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE SERVICES"
The above clause is why I did not purchase such a warranty on my 2013 Rover when I purchased it.
I do all my own maintenance.

Had an Audi A6 several years ago with an extended warranty thrown into the deal by the seller. Usually they paid, but paid low. Big issue was usually labor costs. The fine print said "market rates" which they decided was $45-$50/hr (if memory serves). Good luck with that amount even with an indie shop. The two times I used it, coverage was about 50% of bill.
My favorite denial was for a 4-wheel alignment (quattro package). The mechanic had replaced upper and lower A-arms and bushings. They claimed the realignment was normal maintenance and therefore not covered. I tried to appeal, but turns out the appeals company specified was a subsidiary of the insurance company, so that went nowhere for me.
Industry has been cleaned up some, so shop around and ask questions... as you're doing now.
