Default Airbag recall

Just received a note in the mail from Jaguar that the Takata passenger airbag recall replacement parts are now available and the note says to contact my dealer.

I no longer have my XFR and the recall tanked my trade in value but if your car is affected and you haven't heard from Jaguar USA, then I would contact your dealer with your VIN number to get it sorted.

Default Recall

Just had my recall completed this week, all day job, they gave me a 2017 jaguar xe for a loaner. The car was nice, much better steering wheel and better handling than my 09 sc. I just still cannot get used to the car shutting down at each and every stop light or stop sign?? I realize it helps for fuel efficiency. Good luck

Do you know exactly what was involved in the recall fix, specifically does the dash need to come out, and how long did it take?

Yes dash has to come out, I will get the details today specifically, as my friend is the service manager at JLR. It took around 6 hours maybe more? Not sure if my recall took priority over someone else's service appointment. Hope that helps.

If your wrinkly dash has to come out for the recall, I don't know if this might present an opportunity to get it cleaned up with a staple gun ;-)

On my notice it says "the repair should take aprox 2 hours, but may take longer"

2 hrs.. riiiight.

I will totally be asking about getting my wrinkled dash recovered while its out.

The local dealer here said they could go in from behind the glove box. Taking off the dash wasn't required.

I want to watch this procedure when I take mine in.

Already called jlr back to ask if they could "band aid" my dashboard and was told there was nothing they could do? He also acted like he never heard about the wrinkled dash on a 09 sc? So sad!!!!

Ours was done by a jag dealer a few weeks ago. Seems like it was right around two hours with a little longer to detail the car afterward. They gave us a ride to the mall and back.

I brought my 09 XF SC in yesterday. The service adviser said it is a difficult job because they need to go in from the glove box area and there isn't much room to get the air bag fitted. No word from the dealer yet. They were supposed to call last night to give me an update.

My 2 cent review of the 2016 XF 35T AWD:
The interior is ok but seemed kind of stale/boring/BMW to me. It was all black so that could be part of it, my 09 has the spice interior which I love. The molded dash is kind of cheap but I guess it's easier than dealing with the leather issues. The infotainment system seems great. Cooled seats are buried in the software which is dumb. The system is still laggy but works well with my android phone and spotify. The steering is way too over powered and the suspension is odd. It hits bumps pretty hard but is bouncy over minimal dips. It definitely feels lighter with the aluminum body which is nice. It's fast but lags off the line for some reason. It's a SC so there should be instant response but there isn't. It must be a gas saving thing. As everyone notes, the stop start is weird and difficult to get used to. It works but this engine isn't that quiet and vibrates a bit so it's not seamless. The exterior on this specific XF is gross (brown color with base rims... ick). I like the lip on the trunk (wing like) and the auto open/close trunk is kind of cool but the trunk space seems down quite a bit. The rear exhaust could be spaced further apart to give it a better look. The backup camera has a fish eye type of effect which I hate vs. my normal 09 camera. It makes it difficult to judge distance. I would keep my 09 XF SC and take the new infotainment out of the 2016 without question.
