AJ33s AJ34s differences (Rod Knock)
Hello peeps id like to ask for some help regarding AJ33s and AJ34s differences and if parts can be interchanged.
Car is a 2008 XF SV8 (AJ34s) which has rod knock
Initially i wanted to rebuild the engine but with the damage that probably has been caused to the crank i feel like putting a replacement engine in is the safer way. I would still need to inspect the engine but its quite a job to remove and teardown at this moment so weighing up my options
When speaking to breakers and jaguar parts dealers, its a bit difficult to find AJ34s engines and if found they do go for a very pretty penny. There are a few more 33s to choose from at a lower cost but as you know the ECU in the SV8 is mapped and wired to control VVT solenoids.
my questions are if i go down the route of buying an AJ33s engine could I interchange some parts eg
Ill also go as far as to say id be happy putting in the whole AJ33s and getting the VVT mapped out but this sounds even more crazy and probably way more work than what if asked above.
im pretty new to the jaguar world and at a loss here so any advice or criticism is appreciated
Cheers

- AJ34s VVT cams and valve covers on the 33s heads
- AJ34s complete heads on a short block from a 33s

33 is the X350 engine
34 is the X103 engine
36 is the DEW98 (S-Type, XF) engine
If you use a 33 or a 36 from before 2006 (i.e non VVT) you're going to have to put on heads and all accessories from your donor motor. 34's have a completely different upper bedplate and go for more money anyways.
