alternator and water pump
My 2012 XF started with an error msg "battery not charging" then all power was gone in 15 mins took it to shop it was alternator they are charging me $985 to replace alternator with OEM. However they also said my water pump was leaking and that needed to be replaced as well for $1895 parts hoses, gaskets new belt and labor (7 hrs) does that sound right? I never had any water or coolant on the floor of garage so very surprised to hear this anyone else experience this on their 2012???
I haven't paid anyone to work on my car for quite some time so I'll let someone else chime in as to whether the costs are typical, but the water pump falling is a very known problem and very common. They're on their 3rd (4th?) design of the pump now and from what I can see they've now fixed the previous issues.
I imagine your leaking water pump caused the alternator failure. Have you noticed a dropping coolant level?

Got the water pump done at an indy for $380 + parts (got a genuine Jag on in ebay for $125. Depends on what you mean by "all hoses" I had all the ones in the front done at the same time for 150 + parts since they were in there.
When my pump went the coolant trail went across the engine all the way back and leaked onto the exhaust and burnt up, never say a drop under the car.
BTW I got the battery not charging light as well, belt was slipping due to a failing idler pulley.
