Question Any ideas on how to tame this steering wheel squeak?

The steering wheel has a squeak when it raises and lowers when starting and exiting the car. I've read about a different squeak I think that involves it turning, but I believe this is different?

At any rate, can you watch this video and let me know your thoughts?

Had the same issue once.Solved it with a few sprays of lithium grease. Adjust the steering column to it lowest point and lift the cowling between the top of the steering column and the underside of the instrument panel (no tools are required to do this). You will clearly see the mechanical mechanism that facilitates the steering wheel adjustment.Lubricate as needed.

Thanks - I've peaked in there - is the mechanical bit to grease the metal ring with the triangle cut outs that the shaft goes into?

If you hold open the cowling and operate the switch you will see the areas of motion.I sprayed the shaft area of the column that telescopes the steering wheel and the screw that spins in a circular fashion that raises and lowers the height of the steering wheel.Hopefully that solves your issue as it did mine.

So how does the steering column cover (cowling?) come off with no tools? Pull up? Squeeze sides? How? I've learned Jag plastic tabs love to break off. I'd rather put up with the squeak than buy a new cover.

Pull up,it will slide back into the area under instrument panel.Lift and hold open using one finger when you let go it will close with spring tension.

Thanks Colin. Tried but couldn't get it to pull up enough to see in to spray. Will try again tomorrow when I have more light.
