Hi guys, I had a battery light with a triangle on the dash and then disconnected the positive to notice the cable had melted the end off. It's not the main connecting cable but does someone know what this cable would be for?
At first I thought I was looking at the end of the battery vent tube. Often when the original batteries are replaced, people don't know what to do with the vent tube and just leave it hanging loose (its supposed to snap into a connector on the battery to vent hydrogen sulfide gas to outside the car). I don't see that vent tube connected to your battery in the stock location which would be just to the left of the UPC code in your picture if it were the original Varta battery. But if what you are holding onto there is the sheath that runs from the white plastic retainer on the body ground lug, on mine, there's a wire in it that runs over to the top stud on the positive terminal. Perhaps someone else will post what its function is.

Thanks for the reply. I think this particular battery doesn't have the vent. That wire is exactly the one you mentioned, it connected to the positive. Like you said, maybe someone will know the function of it. I am scared to run the car without it on there!
This looks like the battery voltage sense wire from the battery to the PCM. If NAS that is. Have worked on quite a few jags with this problem. Not a functionality problem. Just a sensory wire for the computer. Was the wire blue/green corroded?

Forgot to post an update. Indeed I think you're right in that it's not a functionality problem and I didn't see any corrosion just that the end had lost the lead to the terminal. Ended up having a buddy put the lead back on somehow and it's working now without any battery light warning.
