I have the "Battery Not Charging" warning on my dash.

I've stuck my multi meter on the battery and it reads what it should when the engine is running or off. So the alternator is doing what it should.

Any ideas?

What reading do you get when charging?

 

From memory 14.8v whilst running. 12.6v when switch off.

 

Has the alternator been replaced or is it the factory unit?

No idea. Owned it for about 7 months before it happened.

 

OK so it was working fine and you now have the "Battery Not Charging" light? Nothing was touched/replaced?
I wonder if there is a code? Just guessing since it sounds like it's original to the car.

No nothing changed. It used to come on every now and then. Then would clear its self.
​But won't go away now.

 

The battery would be the another suspect? How old is it? Do you use a maintainer? As many recommend this if the car is not used daily.
Some cars really go thru batteries and that's a mystery to me?
My 2014 XJR is 10 years old this month and still has the factory battery.

It's quite low mileage so I guess that could make sense.

Have a read of this, I asked about the charging voltage because if you read the 3rd page, it mentions that if the fuselink fails, the car will go to default charging of 13.7v & the warning light will come on.

Attach the battery to a charger/maintainer (such as CTek, Battery Tender, Schumacher, Noco. etc) overnight
