Yeah, can you imagine when they were selling a car for $15K and they get a bill for $30K to fix it?? They probably got it for $10K, but that doesn't make them feel any better.

Will be interesting to see what they do. A lot of dealers would definitely screw you, but maybe a Lexus dealer will be more kind.

Sorry for the hassles you're having. Although as others have said, timing chain issues are a challenge as the mileage goes up on these

Not sure you have much recourse here - they have offered to buy back at what you paid for it. You haven't sustained any damage beyond that. And the trade was the price you would trade it against another car I presume
So I would exit, get your money back and ask if they will do you a deal at cost on a different car (if you trust them)
Else go shop elsewhere

Given what you describe on oil type, oil fill and timing chains I would not risk it on that car. A replacement engine even used will run more than the car is worth.

Maybe they can trade with a dealer for one of those XFR's.

Again, why do you want to take on this burden? Like I said previously, the Lexus dealer might be super happy to find you a good condition GS to trade. It would be a very similar driving experience, and you'd get Toyota reliability in the deal.

Because you get the soul-killing numbness of a Toyota with every Lexus you buy.

Ok, but I'd be happy to take a little soul-killing with a GS F and it's 467 HP 5.0 V8...

I highly doubt they would trade me a GsF. Even their gs350s are much higher priced than this XFR.

I also dont think they would front the engine repairs. I do however have a feeling they will offer a bit more on top in order to pack this issue away Or per another suggestion, offer to trade something on their inventory for the other dealers XFR. Which id be happy to pursue, but will certainly get the other one inspected properly prior to making any final decisions.

No doubt, that was a reach, but ya, why not try suggesting the trade and see what how they respond.

Why not try to trade up as others suggested. You paid cash so if they give you the difference in salvage for the car ( that's all they will get now that they know the car is junk.) so say make up the difference 8K more gets you into a 23K car.
