Default Broken Center Shield

I have a 2010 XF. the Center shield underneath the engine/transmission has cracked at the front and is loose. Trying to determine if this is needed or just an enhancement for aerodynamics and keeping engine clean. Thoughts?

I have the same problem. It's cracked on the front passenger side and partially broken away from the hinge that connects it to the car.

I'm hoping that it can simply be removed and fixed.

I just removed the broken shield. just looking at what is exposed, I think I will order the part and reinstall it myself (about $200 plus shipping). a lot of exposed wiring and part of transmission that I already had to replace a plug on so if for no other reason than protection and resale, I'm going to put it back on.
