Default Calling the Experts !

Ok....first, the 09 XFSC shifts into Park and the engine races for 1-2 minutes at 4-5000 rpm (happened once). Second, the car after parking in friends driveway, is started and can not get out of Park (had to hit the brake pedal really hard to get it to move). Third, after coming home, and before shutting off engine there is a "Transmission Fault" message and a check engine icon on the dash. Two more starts (the next morning) and the check engine icon still there. Decide to take car to dealer and after pulling out of driveway the check engine icon goes OFF.....and stays OFF. The dealer finds nothing wrong and finds NO codes. Now the gear selector knob etc has never been replaced and I want it replaced. But the dealer has to repeat problem in order for JAGUAR to OK it. So they are keeping the car and driving it around etc to try and collect the evidence. What are my options and what do any of you guys thinks of this scenario. Thanks

Reset the system and see what happens. It sounds like an electrical bug or a stuck accelerator cable. Un plug batter for a minute and replug. Drive and see whats up.

Definitely sounds like the gear selector as far as the fault message and getting out of park. I don't see how the revving could have been related to the shifter.

The dealer had the car for 2 days and drove it over 100 miles with no results. So they have decided to replace the gear selector device anyway. In the meantime I have had the dis-pleasure of driving a loaner car (they were out of Jaguar luxury ones) that is a Buick LaCrosse (V6). I was once considering this car but now I can say that it is without a doubt the worst car I have ever driven both in the city and especially on the freeway. It has the typical GM cushy seats and comfort and a nice speedometer projection onto the windshield (kinda like it but it is too bright and contrasty at night). Everything else is negative....the steering, the handling, the performance with it sluggish hesitation and extremely high RPM when excellerating. Very hard to control at high speeds. My wifes Camry Hybrid handles much better in all conditions.

Dealer was wrong. ALL 09 XF have potentially faulty transmission selectors and ALL of them were to be replaced by Jaguar free of charge up to the end of March 2012. I suspect any cars not done under the program would still be paid for by Jaguar.
