Angry Car will not start.

Hi, Just wondered if any one else Has had this fault.

The car will not start.
If I disconnect the battery for 5 minutes. Tap the negative point on the battery twice after 5 minutes. The car horn beeps twice. One for every tap.

The car starts. Works every time.

The car is 2011/ The local dealer has had the car for this issue at least 20 times. Has failed to fix the fault.

Because i love the car,.......... AND,........ I know how to start the car...with just a 5 minute delay.

I put up with it.

FINALLY 8 years after buying the car, I have decided to put it to you guys to see if ANYONE knows how to do a permanent fix.

cheers andy.

You need to be more specific about the "not starting". Does the starter motor turn or does nothing happen when you push the start button?

What is the voltage across the battery terminals when measured with a voltmeter?

The car opens. The car is dead. NO POWER. No lights inside or out. Sometimes the main headlights come on for varying times from 20 minutes to all day and night.

Welcome to the forums Andy,

As the vehicle starts after a battery disconnect/reconnect, I'd consider the BMS (Battery Monitoring System) as a possible cuplrit.

The battery negative terminal is fitted with an integral BMS module. The module communicates with the RJB (Rear Junction Box) via a LIN (Local Interconnect Network) bus connection. The battery condition information is passed to the ECM (Engine Control Module) which controls the generator output accordingly. Disconnecting the battery lead effectively resets the system to default.

The BMS generates error codes but it needs dealer level diagnostics (Jaguar SDD) to read these.

Graham, Thanks. That sounds interesting. After christmas I will ask the local dealer to change thta unit. Because its so unreliable, I have Jaguar limited, Extended Warranty cover.
One would have thought thta the dealer and his technicians might have thought of that???

After Christmas, and its a day thats not raining. Next time it breaks down, I will get jag assist to attend. To FIX"" it. He can then escort me to the dealar, and i will request thta they change this module.
Our local dealer does not provide a worksheets for the 20 plus times its been in for """repair"".
I had to upset the manager, by insisting he print them all out for me. Perhaps he is nt happy thta I did that.
