Current XF / XJ 2015 nav update nightmare or ?
I just received my $199 USB stick and followed their supremely optimistic instructions and... nada, nothing, no response at all. Went Googling for some guidance and what I found wasn't pretty. The few victims who have attempted this, experienced a DOA USB drive like me or a mind-bending FOUR hour install with multiple stop/starts that scared the hell out of them. After which they noticed no improvements or changes in functionality, just a few new roads if they happened to come across one. Oh, one guy lost his voice guidance. That might be considered by some as an improvement.
HAS ANYBODY HAD A SUCCESSFUL 2015 UPDATE WITHOUT THE ABOVE DRAMA?
If so, would you do it again knowing what you do know? I'd like to report the replies I receive here when I call the vendor to return my USB paperweight.
Thanks
Eric

About a year ago the dealer updated my 2012 XFR and it took them a few days. They even had to put more gas in the car due to how long it was "on" updating. Ive seen other posts here but they arent positive.
I have had my 2012 updated twice by the dealer. No issues either time. It cost $199 for the stick plus $199 labor, and they had to burn a bunch of my gasoline. Each time it added/corrected roads that I use, and made the POI's a little more current. I decided two years is often enough.
Mine's a 2012 and I Jaguar paid for a new map upgrade when I bought the car. I ordered the memory stick on line and installed it myself using the instructions that came with the stick. I just left it in the USB slot while it updated. Each time I drove the car it updated a bit more. No need to leave the car running for hours. And no dealer fees.
Didn't realize it could be interrupted, altho that's the way I upload CD's.
A poster on the UK X350 forum who loaded his own stick commented that the electronics on the car were blank when it was loading. Was that your experience?

From the instructions that came with the Nav stick (not verbatim):
1. Insert stick
2. Follow on-screen instructions
3. Enter the map license code
4. Nav, entertainment and phone are not operational during the update
5. Do not disconnect the stick until the update has finished
6. If the ignition is switched offduring the map update, the update will continue automatically the next time the vehicle is started
7. Once update complete, a message will be displayed on the touch screen. Press OK to restart the navigation system. Remove the USB stick immediately.
8. Allow 3 minutes for the navigation to restart.
9. Exit, lock the vehicle and leave for at least 15 minutes before using the navigation system.
I can't remember how long it took to download the new map data but it wasn't long, maybe an hour.
Hope this helps
