Default DIY water pump replacement?

Anyone replaced their own water pumps on the 5.0? Looks like mine might be toast. Lots of coolant all over the bottom. I'm good with cars and do 99% of my own work, but have yet to tackle a water pump. Is it hard on these cars? Are there instructions somewhere? (if someone has a subscription to the Jag manual, that would be perfect) Would you trust the $84 pump from rockauto (Uro parts?) or stick with jag sourced for $200?

Shop wants $850 to replace and needs to special order the part so it won't be done before I need to travel on Sunday. Would love to save money and do it myself, but sometimes it ends up being worth paying a shop (cough, wheel bearings, cough)

Thanks in advance!

I think it is fairly straight forward, but there is a plastic pipe that is very fragile. You may want to have a new one handy.

Someone on the forum has the full shop manual in PDF. I forget which year it's for but assuming not for the 2009 then it may give you all you need. Think people here would appreciate a detailed write up if you choose to do it (with photos!) as this is a common issue
Good luck!

Go here to get the workshop manual as a PDF: Jaguar XF XFR X250 Workshop Manual
You want the third one down.
Not a lot of $.
That said, I have the 5.0 S/C one and after a quick search I couldn't find anything about the water pump.
Edit - found it - it's shown under coolant pump, not water pump.

Great find OzXFR! Looks like it's not too painful. I've got most of the intake tubing out of the way and it looks fairly doable. (knock on wood) I didn't take pics yet, I'll try to remember to get some.

If it is your waterpump, be sure to replace the crossover pipe while you are in there. Otherwise, it probably is your crossover pipe. When my water pump failed, it sounded like a rock tumbler. Dealer didn't change my crossover, which failed a few months later. See this post:

Just did the waterpump. You'll be surprised how easy it is. Four torx or triple squares (can't remember which) and a couple O-rings on the waterpipe and you are good to go. Shoot me a PM if you have any issues but I doubt you will.

Dealer just did mine for $1500 and it wasn't even the problem! I have the old one in my garage and I don't think it needed to be changed.

Also, they told me it was a seven hour job. Four bolts and some intake tubing doesn't seem like seven hours of work to me.

Does anyone have the manual for the car from jagdocs? Is it worth getting?

I ended up doing it, and in the end did it 9 freaking times because in the back of the pump is a hose that just wouldn't seal right and kept leaking. The first time i replaced it took me about 3 hours, not knowing what i was doing. By try 9 i could have it off and on in 30 minutes. You are right, it's some tubing, the intake hose, and 4 bolts holding on the pump. The manual is helpful in a lot of areas, but not needed for this pump IMO.

I have the Jagdocs service manual, it is a factory service manual and it's VERY comprehensive. A deal at $13 for the pdf.

I had my Water Pump replaced today with the new and improved version..I watched him do it from start to finish..Took about 45 mins..there was a couple of specialty tools he used and did say, you have to be careful of the small pipe that runs up under the intake manifold, but all in all a pretty simple job...I got a free complete coolant change as a result too..Although I did provide the distilled water.

Do you have the part number for the new improved version? I am probably going to change the pump, all those plastic pipes and give it fresh coolant as a routine service within the next few months.

Thanks! Looks like it's sub-$200, which isn't too bad for an OEM part.

Rock auto has this one for $88 C2Z21781 https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...nid=411&jpid=0

Can one of the jag techs see what the difference is between this one and the above?

Cool beans..You're a lot like me. Mine was just starting to show signs of a little leakage out the weep hole so my tech justified it and put on a new one under warranty..

Wish you lived closer, I could give you a hand with it.

My wife did the drive from Edmond to Conroe a lot when we lived up there, a seven hour drive is nothing
