Does the touch screen really need to be replaced on a 7.5 year old XF?
Took my XF 2010 MY11 5.0 litre V8 Portfolio model done 77,000km in for a service mentioned the touch screen sometimes did not come on straight away sometimes, they said there was a bulletin on that and just needed a software update. The update did not work and wiped the touch screen module completely so it no longer works at all. Now they are saying the whole screen and module has be replaced at a cost of about $5,000. Are Jaguar cars that crap that a major electrical system like this has to be replaced after only 7.5 years?

Do you park your car out in Australian heat most days? If so, that's not easy on electronics inside the car, and could be a reason why you have had a premature failure.

Give these guys a call, they will tell you whether it's a common problem, dealer error or just bad luck on your behalf. I believe that they will be able to provide a cheaper solution to your problem. I have bought many parts for my XF from this company and always satisfied with the outcome.

When I was looking for my XFR I came across one example for sale where the owner had had the screen replaced at (I think) less than 7yrs old, so you're not the only one to have to get this replaced. And the UK doesn't get hot...
So - you're saying the dealer broke it and is now asking you to pay for it? That seems strange. I would raise with the service manager and Jaguar and perhaps they will help you on the cost
Thanks for the responses. You are right, you can be unlucky and things go wrong but I was really annoyed. The dealer that broke it trying to do the software update had the car for another week trying to restore it but could not. But finally looks like it might? be a happy ending. The dealer has agreed to install a new touch screen and module for no labour cost and discounted parts cost. Parts to come from the UK so will not get it back for another 2 weeks. Hopefully they can get it working again. Just the nature of modern cars I guess, too much superfluous electronic gadgetry that is not made to last. I guess old cars also had tuning etc issues but generally less things seemed to go wrong.
