The HVAC module is up the side of the heater assembly near where the cabin filter is inserted.
I believe the official procedure is something like remove wipers, and panel at bottom of windscreen, depressurise aircon, and drain the coolant system, decouple the aircon pipes, and coolant pipes from the heater core, dismantle most of the dash and centre console, and take the heater assembly out, then it's a simple matter of unscrewing it.

I think I'd be trying to get something up the gap to take those screws out, or relocating it below the heater assembly!

Have you checked for corrosion at the CJB? ( I've heard of folk having climate control problems due to CJB not supplying power as a result of water ingress from the washer pump via the wiring ) Lots of existing threads about cjb water ingress, here and over at jaginfo.org , well worth a search and read up about if you haven't come accross it.
