extended warranty on my XF
The manufacturers warranty is about to expire on my 2012 XF (3 litre diesel).
I've looked into taking up an extended warranty and I'm looking at around £700 per year but as with most of these policies, I hear the providers try to wriggle out of paying as much as possible.
My question is, do other XF owners think these policies are worth it? Have you had any major problems that would have made an extended warranty worthwhile?
My other option is putting aside some money every month to cover repairs but my big fear is a major problem that's going to cost a few grand to fix.
Thanks

But why would you expect that to happen, these cars are actually pretty reliable. The thing is that now, since you have the warranty, you know that every problem has been addressed and can look forward to problems, when they occur, arriving singularly. That you should be prepared to pay for (and why putting money aside now is wise).
There really aren't any known catastrophic failures with these cars (and I'm including my S-Type under that label) so the likelihood of you having one is slim. So put the money aside and enjoy your car.
However, I am in the States and am talking about gas engines, your oil burner may be a different case. The NA engined cars, over here, have been particularly reliable.

Ive just got myself a 58 plate 2.7 Prem Lux and I have been pondering about a warranty and I have researched via the web and asked many questions to friends and they all seem to come back with the same answer.
Thus being"They are not worth the paper they are written on"
However in saying that a few and by this I mean very few people have had some success so just maybe some have been lucky.
I have thought deeply into it and just cannot get my head round the fact that supposing a car has lets say 80K miles on the clock and some major part blows how do you prove wear and tear on the part.I just feel that even if wear and tear is included in the policy they may sure find a way to wriggle out of it.
In summing up I feel these policies have many flaws and cracks in them but its up to yourself to go where the heart takes you.
This is my view.

Ok….I am on board with the "put some money aside for a rainy day" idea! But have you looked into an extended CPO warranty? Do you think that the CPO certified warranties that the dealers offer with some used vehicles are worth anything? Apparently some do or they would not sell these cars at the rate that they do. These warranties have the advantage of on site confirmation (not third party verification) and done by Jaguar techs.
Purchase the warranty now thru your Jag dealer, that way its still considered a new car.. You'll get better terms at a cheaper price than if you buy it later. I bought my 2010 car with 24K miles on it 14 months ago and already paid $3800 in repairs. The extended warranty would have only cost me $3200. This car is just not worth the cost of ownership.
AC condenser and Cooling fan with fan controller, $2500. 3 yr extended warranty, $2500. Jaguars can get expensive real fast.

If your car is still under factory warranty, Jaguar certified dealers will offer a factory backed warranty that goes up to a maximum of 7 yrs 100k miles from todays date!
I just extended the warranty on my car to 2021 and 100k miles for $3800 (This will be lower if you have lower miles). Refinanced the car and rolled this into the monthly payment, IMO it is worth every penny. $0 deductible at any Jaguar dealer and everything except wear/tear items are covered.

Jaaaggg -- thanks for sharing your warranty information. I think if it's a factory backed plan, it's definitely worth it. My jag dealer in MD didn't offer one -- they had a 3rd party plan that I wasn't comfortable doing.
I'm curious why some dealers will offer a factory warranty and others will not?
I'm assuming I could just buy the warranty from any dealer -- but they would have to probably inspect the car? So it would need to be close to me...
