Default Facelift steering wheel in Preface lift XF

I swear I have seen a thread but can't find it now.
I have a 2012 steering wheel and I would like to swap it out in my pre face lift XF.
The controls are exactly the same and the airbag section will fit. Even the interior area behind the airbag is exactly the same. Every single bolt, screw, terminal, wire. The only part that looks different in a photo of the back of a pre face lift is the flange. On the older style, there is metal and the newer is black plastic lip.
And my XF has heated wheel, I have no idea if this one is heated. I'd REALLY love to swap as my original one is showing a bit of age and the newer one is perfect and much softer. Wouldnt even mind giving up my heated wheel to swap.

My real issue is, will this 2012 wheel fit my 2009 XF? As I said, every single component inside is identical but the back is slightly different. The original has a metal ring around the mounting area and the new has a plastic flange.
HELP!!!!!!!
My mechanic says he can't know unless he physically removes and tries it. I'd rather not pay just to find out its not a direct swap.
And again, mine is heated now, the new one, I have no idea. It was listed as a direct swap for 2007-2012, even listed as a 2008 wheel, but clearly its a 2012 wheel.
I've read on another forum conflicting answers. It will fit, but wiring harness is wired differently even though the plug is the same, or I've read it will swap, and I've read it won't swap.
SOOOOOOO, anyone here swapped a new wheel for the early wheel?????????

Yes, plenty of people have done it on the UK forum. No need to for extra parts. I posted a link on how to a while back.

One thing I didnt see in your write up is the 2012 fitting a 2009. THe back is different somewhat. Was you wheel a facelift on a pre facelift?

Here is a thread on a guy who did a face lift wheel and custom paddles on a pre facelift. Plus he had the wheel retrimmed.

I guess I'll let my mechanic give it a go.
I think the new wheel was used in the 2010-11 model? Just before the facelift so I hope the 2013 is an option. The 2013 had a lot of minor changes so I hope the wheel wasn't one of them! I still wish I knew if it was heated or not. Or a way to tell before installing!
