A subscription to Jaguar TOPIx would help by allowing you to lookup DTC's.

Here is the relevant entry for your vehicle:

Later Jaguar models use extended 7 character diagnostic trouble codes which requires Jaguar SDD or equivalent to read. Fortunately this particular code does not have other associated codes (as indicated by the final 00) so it is straighforward.

Are SDD comparable to generic OBD scan tools? Or they serve different purposes. I'm having some issues with my 2015 XFS and ordered a $100 OBD scanner is hopes to find whats wrong. Though if SDD is required to read codes that an OBD may not be able to, I rather try and get my hands on an SDD.

Depends. You can get OBD II scanners (iCarsoft LR2 or i930 are common ones) that will read the first 5 digits of all Jaguar systems (Chassis, Body, etc...) whereas a generic will only read engine codes.

So you get the first 5 digits which 9 times out of 10 will lead you to your problem.

What the iCarsoft handhelds won't do is program modules. Most of us will never program modules anyway.

SDD has it's advantages but there are many Chinese clones out there that you don't want. So if you go SDD, have someone on this forum point you to genuine OEM approved. Also the software is often hacked Chinese versions so you want to make sure you get a good software version from someone here on the forum.

Noted. Do you reckon a good quality OBD scanner will be able to measure MAF values, engine load %, long/short term fuel trims? Or would you recommend going for one of the two ICarsoft scanners for my intended use.

Thank you for your response Sean, the more I know...

Just purchased a 2006 Super V8, VIN H05701. Is there anything new on what I need to buy for a diagnostic tool that can read all the computer modules on this car ?
I don't even know where to start figuring out which of the four tire pressure sensors has faulted.
Also seeking advice on acquiring/purchasing an OEM factory service manual.
Much appreciated,
Mike

I was getting this code on first startup of the day. Sometimes P0492 would come up as well as a pending code.

When the engine first idles down as it warms up, the engine would "shake" as the idle speed dropped to normal, and the code(s) would kick in.

I recently ran SDD and updated all my modules that had updates available including the PCM, and I no longer receive the codes. The engine idles down more smoothly.
