Default Front Parking Sensor

Is it just me, or does one need to manually engage the parking sensor when wanting it for the front of the vehicle? I always notice the rear sensors operating when backing out of my garage or a parking spot, but on several occasions I find myself wondering why the alert isn't beeping when pulling into a garage or other tight space where front clearance is unknown.

Do I have to press the P>>> button every time I want the front sensors to activate? Or have I accidentally disabled them with all my button pushing?

The way it works on the Land Rover (and I suspect Jag also) is that engaging reverse fires up all parking sensors, front and rear. After a while they turn off automatically or you can turn them off with the "P" button (if a car sneaks up behind you having just reversed out of a garage spot for example). I assume you can manually engage them too if needed which seems to be what you observe. So do the front ones come on automatically when pulling head first into a slot without having just come out of reverse ? No, I think that's working as designed maybe not as desired ;-)

Yep, that is how they are supposed to work. If the front sensors didn't turn off automatically they would be forever going off in bumper to bumper traffic unless you turned them off. About the only time I turn them on (other than reverse auto turning them on) is when driving into my garage, so I don't bump the front wall.
