Default Want to disable lock & unlock bleep on Jaguar XK8/XKR 2000

Does anyone know how I can disable the audible bleeps when I lock and unlock my car (Jaguar XKR 2000).

According to UK and European legislation it's supposed to be disabled and I was wondering if it can be done without taking the car to the dealer.

Er... which legislation? (Seriously.)

In case it came in after your car was designed (homologated may be the time) then it won't apply.

If it's the sort-of "chirrup" you're referring to, then just disconnect the sounder which is next to the headlight on the driver's (right-hand) side. You can just about get to it through the plastic access cover in the wheel-arch liner. 8 (?) pin plug on the rear.
I don't think it will cause any problems with the rest of the electrickery but not sure whether your insurance would still be valid if the car was stolen as you would have disabled part of the security system on the car.

I think it came in after the car was designed. Might not quite be EU legislation but according to Jaguar handbook the bleeping shouldn't be enabled for UK and European car, so they must have stopped it at some point.

Also when I lock and unlock my car my nosey neighbours curtains move, p's me off.

The only way to disable this feature is via the dealer options using a mongoose or WDS and software As the chirp is switched on using the security setting for a USA version of the vehicle. And by resetting the security system to UK switches this off.

I had a play around with a mongoose a few weeks ago and found the options for this feature along with a few more dealer option switches.

Mine does the "chirrup" on lock and unlock, but no other noises. I think that's standard on UK cars. There's two types of sounder - 'passive' and 'intelligent'. The difference is that the latter has built-in rechargeable NiCad batteries, so even if the main car battery is disconnected, the sounder will still "go off" if someone tries to steal the car.

Mine stopped making the chirp noise when the battery in the sounder module finally quit holding a charge. And I prefer it that way. The lights blinking is enough for me,
