Just use the key in the drivers door lock to lock the car , twist the steering wheel to lock the steering lock, key lock the glovebox and hit the Valet switch to anti tamper lock the boot?
I think that makes it all locked up without arming?

I routinely lock mine with the top down using the flob. No issues, lights and sounder signal the car is locked and armed just as it does with the roof up.

Jandreu, you missed his point. When the top is down, he does not want the car armed, i.e. setting off the alarm on intrusion; he just want to lock everything up.

Oki Doki, but read reading to OP's post sounds like he indicated his alarm goes off with the top down and arming with the flob. Just letting him know that is not normal.

Would it be normal to go off if someone tried to tamper with it somehow or put their hand inside?

Does it have motion sensors?

I just bought a 2004 Landrover Discovery HSE with an alarm system that worked.

On a hot windy day , I left the windows down , juts a smidge and came back at the end of the day to the alarm going off. I think due to the motion sensor inside?

We have glass break sensors in the headliner by the dome lights but other than that no inside protection that I know of.

If the car is locked per the OP it would be locked without Alarm. If he also set valet that would prevent trunk / glove box access. All said anyone could then reach in and unlock the doors and open them without consequence

FYI, Top down alarm on - the trunk open button is disabled, pressing it does not set off the alarm. I just tested mine a short while ago when my valet swtich was not working.

Strangely enough when my car is locked (alarm on or off doesn't matter), any tries to open the driver's door from the outside puts it in Deadlock mode - Can't open the door from inside or outside and I have to go through one or two cycles of using the key in the door to unlock it.

I thought using the key to lock the door from the outside will always arm the alarm. If so, you might have to reach in and press the door handles to lock the doors.

To the author, mind if I ask why you specify "Top down"? Besides being able to reach in and press the handle to lock I'm not sure what that has to do with this.

So far I have not found a way other than remove fuse or wiring to disconnect my alarm when locking car. Top down, windows down, valet for trunk security set , I lock door with key. all good. Id rather have my alarm set with the top down. I cannot answer why your alarm would go off... Rich B
