First off- I don't actually know...But you did stipulate "any advice" so maybe this will help you research further for yourself if someone with specific knowledge doesn't chime in.
So, looking up your specs online you have a 6 speed gearbox ? My SV8 4.2 litre has a ZF 6HP26 gearbox. These were apparently commonly used in other brands such as BMW ( or was it Audi ??) and maybe that is in your car too... dunno. I think you will have a broader choice once you know what gearbox is in your car and look for that particular gearbox.
edit: 'cos you can't just throw in , for example, any 8 speed rather than 6 speed , if that applies re: 5.0 car, and just drive away !!

You need to determine which exact gearbox you have and replace it with the exact same type.
All V6 and V8 XFs from 2008 to early 2012 used the ZF 6HP26 and then they switched to the ZF 8HP70, except for the XFR which didn't switch until a year later.
Except I believe the early (2008 and 2009?) petrol V6 with the Duratec engine which I think used a different and lower rated ZF 6 speed 'box.
Then when the AJ126 V6 (supercharged) came out and replaced the 5.0 V8 NA (2013?) it also used the 8HP70.
If your XF V6 is one of those early ones then you can't use the 6HP26 but if it is as I suspect a later one then you need either the 6HP26 or the 8HP70, depending on which one of those you already have.
And AFAIK it needs to be a Jag one and not one from some other car such as a BMW otherwise it won't bolt up.

My 2012 XF 5.0 NA has a 6HP28 transmission as do all 2010-2012 XF cars with 5.0L NA engines.(in North America anyway)

Yep, my bad, the 5.0 V8 both NA and SC came out with the 6HP28 not the 6HP26 until it was replaced by the 8HP70.

I have done a little more research and it seems that all early petrol V6 XFs came with the 6HP26 so that is the 'box you want.
