Default Head Unit

There is hardly any output from the rear speakers and subwoofer, if the head unit has faults, can it be replaced with a later version, say the Meridian unit, providing the CCF is amended?

Is the head unit and 6 CD changer one unit?

Am thinking more likely the head unit because all the rear speakers and the subwoofer are hardly producing anything

I don’t know the definite answer to this, but I would presume propably not. You’d most likely run into issues related to compatibility of software/firmware on the devices along the most network. I don’t know if anyone has tried this, though, so I can’t be sure.

Yes, they are.

There are two guys on the forum who have expertise in this, Cambo and elviukai. I've done stuff like replace the amp, changed the CCF, added surround sound speakers, but I am a bit stuck with the Premium Amp to support surround sound. The process of upgrading the Amp is the most frustrating as I've been told there are only a few amps which work with the 2012 XF model. I've messed up the amps trying to program them as I don't think the JLR SDD programming recognizes the amps the correct options of amps. I don't know if it is because there was a change between the B&W system/Meridian during the year or what. So the MOST system is a bit of challenge for me. I have heard that changing out the head unit and the CD player is not much of a deal, though you will probably have to get something in a similar years 2008-2011 when doing the CCF programming. I would say you won't be able to change the B&W head unit for a Meridian head unit because the pre 2012 XF's didn't support the Meridian, and JLR SDD won't know how to program the Meridian unit for what was the options for your model year (which were only the B&W). It's all a bit confusing to me because there were "Jaguar" "B&W" Harmon Kardon" brands in the pre 2012 years. Not sure if the electronics especially for the amps were actually Harmon Kardon with B&W speakers and the Jaguar base head unit versus B&W were all that different, except for programming and the CD changers.

For the Harman/Kardon or B&W part, the B&W amp is literally the same model as on the LR Freelander 2 with ALPINE audio. As is the headunit. Go figure. I think it’s more to do with the speakers and tuning, the AMP I believe is Harman/Kardon. Don’t know about the Meridian system. The “Jaguar” system amp seems to be just a dumbed down, stripped version of the higher spec model.
