Firstly welcome to the Forum.
Not much info to go on at the moment.
What Jag model is it?, Year and engine etc helps a lot.
Also, where in the world are you?, as many things vary dependent on the market the car is produced for.

Welcome to the forum Kimberley,
Your forum profile shows Jaguar XF Luxury V6 Auto. Is this the earlier 2007-2015 model or the current 2015 onwards?
If you add year information here, I'll move your post to the appropriate forum for advice from members with the same model.
When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

The year is 2010 by the way
Any history or symptoms leading up to that - did you just get in the car turn on the ignition and find it possessed ? For a 2010, if it is the original battery, I'd still think about getting it checked as all manner of strange things start to happen once the voltage fluctuates. So just because the headlights come on don't assume all is well....

Thank you for your reply stmcknig, the car was playing up a bit a few days before. The start button would not rise when smart key activated. Then the fuel gauge was all over the place once I had put diesel in her. Once driving the speed dial froze along with rev dial. The reverse camera and screen all stopped working. I had trouble switching the car off....... then it just died on me altogether.
Its a case of "The lights are on, but nobody,s home ! "

These are the faults coming up on Garage computer
U0140-lost communication with body control module, intermittent;
U0155-lost communication with instrument cluster, intermittent;
U0156-lost communication with information center A, intermittent;
B1009-ignition authorisation, permament

I believe you can probably discount most of those "U" codes (at least that's what I learnt from the Land Rover side) and the authorisation code would fit with the observation that the start button didn't activate the gear selector (as the start button doesn't rise).
What do you know of the history of the car - it almost seems to me that there might be some previous liquid damage of one or more ECU (I know spillage in the centre console is far too easy). If you can get the fault codes cleared and then see if those lost communication with XYZ come back and are the same ones, would make me think maybe a loose or damaged connector in the back of the dash. I can't recall if I saw something similar over on the UK Jaginfo forum in the past. You might also want to post over there in case someone has more familiarity with UK diesel engined quirks. I've been here for twelve years so I don't miss diesel too much ;-)
Sorry I can't come up with a quick fix, but I would not rule out the battery unless you know it's been replaced/tested recently. Here in Texas, if you keep it going for four or five years you are doing well...

All of those symptoms are consistent with a dead or dying battery, so that is the first place I would look. The XF battery is notorious for dying after around 4 years old, and if you are still on your original battery it's now over 6 years old, so well overdue for replacement anyway.
