So, it has been a while since I last posted. Honestly, the whole experience was mentally draining, painful and costly. I ended up taking my 2012 Jag XFR to Miguel at British Performance in Mission Viejo, CA. Miguel really knows his Jags/Land Rovers - he drives them daily. Ultimately, the cause of the engine failure was that the timing tensioners broke and threw my timing way off. This caused the pistons on number 6 & 8 to hit the valves and actually break the piston head. We found fragments of the piston rings in the catalytic convertor. Long story short, replaced #6-8 pistons, replaced all the valves, replaced all the timing gear, new valves covers, pumps, etc. While the engine was out, replaced as many maintenance items as we could (engine had nearly 100k miles). A very costly $$$ engine out job.

My word of advice.... once you hear some chain noise, starting investigating the source. My timing chain noise wasn't immediately apparent because my supercharger coupler was so loud (replaced that also). The jag has been driving well for the past 11 months and hope it stays that way.

Thanks for reporting back. Interestingly I also have 100k on the odometer and Miguel at BP did my timing chain/ tensioner job on my 2010 XJ too. I had him also do the supercharger snout, coolant hoses, water pump, injectors, and brake booster vacuum pump while he was in there. Been going strong for 1.5 years since then.

Here’s to another 100k miles!
